How To Defeat The Cyclops On The Way To Vernworth
During In Dragon's Wake, you'll be making your way to the capital city of Vernworth, but part of the way through the journey, you'll come across a river-area blocked by a wall of rocks.
You'll get a brief cutscene upon arriving and then have to fight a boss: your first Cyclops of the game. Cyclops are massive creatures, and this one comes armed with a giant club it'll use for both sweeping and slamming attacks.
Having at least one pawn as a Mage in your party can help keep everyone healed up with Anodyne spell and make the fight easier.
While the Borderwatch soldiers and your pawns distract the Cyclops, there are several strategies you can use to go about fighting the Cyclops:
- If you're an Archer or Mage, you'll want to aim at the Cyclops' eye with magic or arrows. It takes increased damage from that area, and enough damage to the eye will briefly stun the Cyclops.
- For any class, but especially close-range attackers like Warriors, you can grab onto either leg and attack it to make the Cyclops fall, giving you plenty of time to do damage.
- Fire does great damage to the Cyclops, and Mages with the Flagration spell can cause it to get the Caught Fire debilitation and do damage over time.
You can also try to disarm the Cyclops by grabbing on and climbing up to its weapon arm and attacking it, but it may throw you off of it and cause some serious damage that way.
You can pick up some useful enhancement materials from the Cyclops' corpse like and .
Once the Cyclops is dead, you'll be free to unblock the waterfall nearby and destroy the rock wall blocking your way to Vernworth. You can do this in two different ways:
- Mages can use a spell such as Levin to attack the rocks blocking the water flow, and it takes around two to three spells to knock the rocks free.
- Any class can pick up the explosive barrels located nearby on the shore and grass and either move them or throw them at the rocks to cause an explosion.
