That's because Cassardis wasn't spared from the dragon's wrath. The poor fishing town got incinerated and its population red💧uced to zero, with just the Arisen left behind.
It wasn't really this brutal or shocking in the video games. The dragon did attack Ca🧸ssardis but left immed♉iately after finding its Arisen and stealing their heart. There weren't many casualties nor destroyed buildings left in its wake.
9 THE HYDRA'S DIGESTION WIND🤡OW

This was not the case in the video game as the succubi in Dragon's Dogma are more like specialized harpies. 7 🧜 T🦂HE ARISEN'S POWERS
The Arisen, or Ethan in the anime, is another creature who got an overhaul. Since he was to become the♔ next dragon, he was reluctantly bestowed w🐻ith a curse that actually boosted his physical prowess-- even allowing him to take on the hydra by himself and win.
If only this same boon was present in the game, then it would have been so much easier. However, being an Arisen in the video game really doesn't entail much other than the ability to employ pawns and not die of o🐼ld age. There were no a✅dditional powers or privileges written in the fine print.
6 ꧙ THE ARISEN'S MOTIVATION💞
Now, since the dragon also gave the Arisen the m𒈔eans to defeat ༺and kill him (which doesn't make sense), there had to be a drawback. That drawback would be the Arisen eventually becoming a dragon himself to continue the cycle but apparently, the Arisen had to succumb to his vengeful desire to kill the dragon first.
That brings us to another layer of added motivation for the Arisen.💯 Since the dragon also burned down all of Cassardis and murdered the Arisen's pregnant wife and foster son, revenge was his main goal. The game was less inte🏅nse in that regard since the players mostly just want their heart back.
5 THE PAWN'S POWERS ♈ 🥀
Much like the Arisen, the pawns or just the pawn in the anime got a rather big upgrade. Hannah, which is Ethan's designated pawn after he became an Arisen, turned out to be quite the powerhouse and is possibly a multi-classer by the game'♎s standards.

Goblins are some of the weake🌌st enemies in the video game and despite their penchant for trouble, they're not really seen as malicious as evil humans such as bandits and the like. That's why it probably came as a bit of a shock when they tried to violate one of the female characters in the show.
They were never really portrayed as rapists. The closest explanation in the video game's𒐪 lore of goblin reproduction was th🃏at their elder goblins make them via ritual using human blood but even that's just a rumor in the lore.
2 THE 🎃WORLD'S CHARA꧂CTERS WERE CHANGED
In addition to Cassardis turning into a pile of coal deposits at the beginning of the series, the show also overhauled the characters. The Arisen and his pawn being fresh new faces are understandablꦰe but 🦩some of the more popular and recognizable faces in the games are absent.
Even the king and his 🍎wayward princess are nowhere to be found. The closest character present in the game was the dragon itself who may not even be the same one because the anime also decided to take the whole Arisen ending in a new direction...
1 ꧑ THE ENDING
Now comes to most shocking overhauls that the anime did to the world: the ending. In the video game, and more often than not, the end is more positive with the Arisen even getting a chance to become omnipotent. It was nowhere near as dark or nihilistic as the dragon-turning in Netflix's Dragon's Dogma.
Turnsℱ out Ethan's journey was all in vain since he was to become the next dragon-- the very thing he hated and sought to destroy. It wasn't even bitter🏅sweet, just straight up upsetting and miserable which was probably why he wasn't made to be likable in the first place.
