Many of you might remember Dragon’s Dogma, the 2012 action RPG for the PS3 and Xbox 360. That ga𒁏me introduced players to a high fantasy realm where they control an “Arisen” character tasked with killing an evil dragon and stopping the apocalypse. It also introduced the “Pawn” mechanic, whereby the player could create their human companion and then share that same companion with other players online.
Dragon’s Dogma was eventually ported to modern consoles and PC back in 2016, but there was another Dragon’s Dogma game created before then and became wildly popular in Japan. That game was Dragon’s Dogma Online, a massively multiplayer role-playing game that once again saw players control their Arisen to slay the dragon anღd sav༺e the land.
Released in 2015, Dragon’s Dogma Online received over 1 million downloads within the in Ja🐟pan. Sadly, the game never made it across the ocean to North America or Europe, and now it never will.
Capcom announced that Dragon’s Dogma Online will be shutting down its serversܫ as of December 5th, 2019, at 10 AM Japan time. According to Japanese gamer site , Capcom said "It is difficult to continuously provide satisfactory service,” and thus was forced to close Dragon’s Dogma Online’s servers. This likely means that resources within the company are being redirected to Monster Hunter World, Capcom’s best-selling game of all time.
Executive Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi wrote on the that both he and others within Capcom will "strive to develop the Dragon's Dogma series in the future." He also noted that fans of the series can look fღorward to a Netflix Original animated series bearing the same name that is currently in dev﷽elopment.
