DreamHack, one of gaming's biggest esports events, is extending to a new venue.🐷 The festival is home to several comp🌳etitions that span all of gaming's biggest genres. It also acts as a giant party in general with appearances from streamers, concerts, and a cosplay contest. It tours around the world but has its roots in Stockholm, Sweden. As of February 2019, DreamHack will have a West Coast vacation spot: Anaheim, California.
The announcement came from itself, saying that the festival is partnering with the city of Anaheim to bring its 24 hour-a-day crazinessܫ West as DreamHack Anaheim. The new festival will take place from the 21st to the 23rd of February 2020 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The convention center is perfectly equipped for the event, as it's played host to BlizzCon and Disney's D23 expo man🀅y times before.
“I cannot express our excitement at bringing DreamHack to the great city of Anaheim for our first-ever West Coast festival weekend — especially because itౠ comes on the heels of our 25th-anniversary celebration,” said DreamHack Co-CEO Marcus Lindmark. “This debut event in Anaheim will be a not-to-be-missed experience for fans of esports and all things gaming.”
DreamHack actually began as a small LAN party between Swedish computer gamers in the '90s. They played in a school's basement, then grew to take over the cafeteria. It was that event, in 1994, that was first known as DreamHack. Since then, the event has kept to its LAN Party roots even as it went worldwide. It was recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as world's largest LAN party with the world's fastest Internet connection. Guests are allowed to bring their own computers and even sleeping bᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚags, as the 24-hour event provides places to sleep.
The Anaheim event will likely be more of the same. Of particular interest, however, is DreamHack's esports scene. The festival holds tournaments in notable games such as Counter Strike, Dota 2, Rocket League, and a whole series of fighting games. The addition of DreamHack Anaheim implies another round of tournaments, which implies another chꦰance for the pros to win big. With this being DreamHack's West Coast debut, it also gives local competitors a shot at making themselves known. Either way, it will be an exciting February for West Coast-based competitive gamers.
