While Dragonborn hav🎐e been part of D&D’s fifth edition since the very beginning, appearing in the Player’s Handbook, the race has recently received a sizable update in Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. In addition to making Chromatic and Metallic Dragonborn more distinct from one another, granting each useful yet unique abilities, Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons introduced a third type of Dragonborn altogether: the Gem Dragonborn. As a brand new race in D&D’s fifth edition, Gem Dragonborn are a fun new option that can bring a lot of utility to any party and can fit in a wide variety of roles. All Gem Dragonborn tote the heritage of Powerful Psionic Dragons known as the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Gem Dragons. Gem Dragons come in five forms:

  • Amethyst: Dragons that study the inner workings of the multiverse
  • Crystal: Dragons known for their kindness and optimism
  • Emerald: cautious Dragons fascinated with culture
  • Sapphire: militant beings averse to aberrations
  • Topaz: the biggest pessimists of Dragonkind

When creating a Dragonborn character, a player decides which of these five D⭕ragons is their ancestor and the source of their Gem Dragon blood.

Like all Dragonborn, Gem Dragonborn have access to a breath weapon that can be used to replace any one attack during that character’s attack action. This breath weapon comes in the form of a 12-foot con♛e and requires all creatures in its area of effect to make a dexterityไ saving throw, with its DC dictated by the Dragonborn’s constitution and proficiency modifier. If a creature fails this save, they sustain 1d10 damage, with this damage increasing as the Dragonborn levels up. It should be noted that this breath can be used a number of times per long rest equal to that character’s proficiency modifier.

The Breath of a Geไm Dragonborn is particularly useful, due to the damage types that correspond with each Gem Dragon&rsquoജ;s breath weapons:

Amethyst: Force

Crystal: Radiant

Emerald: Psychic

Sapphire: Thunder

Topaz: Necrotic

Luckily for those looking to play a Gem Dragonborn, the🐷se damage types are among theౠ least commonly resisted damage types in all of D&D!

4 Draconiಌc Resistance

In addition to the Gem Dragonborn’s Draconic ancestry dictating the damage type of their breath weapon, it also dictates a damage type they’re resistant to. As mentioned, resistance to the likes of many of these damage types is quite rare, especially the force da🌳mage resistance that comes with the territory of playing an Amethyst Dragonborn. This offers the race defensive buffs that are quite uncommon in D&D.

3 Psionic Mind 🐈

Psionic Mind is a frankly stellar ability, exclusive to Gem Dragonborn thaꦐt allows them to telepathically send messages to creatures within 30 feet of them. While the range of this effect is nothing to write home about and creatures are 𓂃unable to respond to these messages telepathically in a similar manner, there’s a potentially overlooked aspect that helps this effect stand out.

As long as the recipient of the message can understand any language, they can understand the meaniꦚng of the message, even if they don’t understand languages spoken by the Dragonborn. This immediately allows this ability to be used to break down language barriers, potentially resolve conflicts nonviolently, or even open up un🤪ique options for intimidation.

2 🐼 Gem F🌸light

Once a Gem Dragonborn reaches level five, they gain the ability to summon spectral wing💙s ♕that grant them a flying speed equal to their walking speed for up to one minute.

No matter what ✤class a Dragonborn happens to be, flight is an incredible option, allowing players to easily cross chasms or distance themselves from foes incapable of flight while attacking them from afar.

1 Flexible Ability Scores 🐎

As is the case with every race introduced to D&D after Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, when making a Gem Dragonborn, the player is able to allocate its ability score improvements however they wish, either putting a +2 in one score and a +1 in another, or putting a +1 in three scores. This allows a player to optimize their Dragonborn’s ability scores for any class, making them effectively fit 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:any role in a party.
