There's no doubt that the makers of Dungeon & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves took some level of artistic license regarding the use of certain abilities, spells, and features. For example, in one scene the party's druid Doric shapeshifts into a collage of different creatures even though the wild shape ability only allows a finite number of changes.
That being said, there are many times in the movie as well where the makers stuck to well-known and appreciated 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons devices that work exactly as described in the roleplaying game. Here's a list of some of the most recognizable spells to hit the big screen.
10 𝔉 Disguise Self
The movie's primary villain, a red wizard of Thay named Sofina, makes abundant use of this 1st level illusion spell in order to easily disguise her true allegiance.
You can see Sofina casting the spell time and time again throughout the course of ▨the movie as she moves from sc🦄enes where she acts as a representative of Forge Fitzwilliam to those where she shows her true red wizard colors.
It's really a rather subtle spell all things considered but remains an important plot device up until the story's climax. Sofina makes use of the spell to hide her head tattoos as well as change the colors of her robes from red to gray.
9 🌼 Invisibility ও
This 2nd level illusion spell is only cast a couple of times during the movie, but it ends up being one of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the most important spells the heroes use in order to defeat their arch-nemesis. Notably, the spell is also never actually cast by any of the movie's characters.
Instead, it's only accessed by Edgin's daughter Kira thanks to a legendary magic item that Edgin and Holga gave to her. The ring of invisibility is among the hardest items to find in the tabletop version of Dungeons & Dragons, and its power is put on full display in the film's final battle.
8 ജ Misty Step 💝
This fan favorite 2nd level conjuration spell is among the most useful spells characters can pick up in the tabletop version of the game. During the movie, red wizard Sofina uses the spell to escape the heroes' reach and set up an all-out attack with an animated statue.
Players who want the ability to misty step like Sofina can easily grab it thanks to the fey-touched feat in Tasha's Guide to Everything.
That being said, check with your DM (dungeon master) before picking this one up. Some DMs actually ban the feat because they feel it's a little too powerful.
7 Fireball
Long-time Dungeons & Dragons fans might be disappointed to find that Fireball isn't a more important part of the movie's story, but it does at least get a moment of screen time. As Doric flees Neverwinter after being caught spying on Forge's meeting with city leaders, Sofina flings a fireball at her that destroys a roof overhead.
This might not be the impactful encounter ending casting of Fireball that's often seen at the table, but there are much more powerful and impressive evocation spells slung during the movie anyways.
6 Magic Weapon 🐓 ♓
The film's overpowered paladin Xenk Yendar casts this 2nd-level transmutation spell on his sword during his fight against a squad of Thayan assassins in the Underdark. Magic Weapon is often an overlooked spell thanks to the grace of dungeon masters who shower their players with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:magic items.
However, in low magic campaigns where magic items are more difficult to acquire, this is one of the most important spells for casters to have prepared. The spell allows martial attacks to override normal weapon damage resistance while also providing a nice little bonus to a weapon's damage and chance to hit.
5 🌊 Speak With Dead
During one of the funnier moments of the movie, party sorcerer Simon caᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚᩚ𒀱ᩚᩚᩚsts this 3rd level necromancy spell using ꦅa magic coin to learn some information from a clan of buried barbarians. In true D&D fashion, the plot makes full comedic use of this spell by exploring all of its possible implications.
After a long night of grave digging, the party does eventually find the answers they are looking for. It takes a lot of laughs to finally get there, but we're certainly not complaining.
4 Black Tentacles ꦆ 🧸
This 4th-level evocation spell is ac🎉tually used in tandem with the 3rd-level abjuration spell Glyph Of Warding to set a deadly trap that the party stumbles right into. In addition, Sofina uses the spell to disable party bard Edgin𒁏 after fooling him into trusting her.
While black tentacles don't exactly do everything that it's capable of in the movie, it's certainly one of the more memorable spells seen. This is thanks to the disgusting nature of the tentacles summoned as well as their importance to the flow of the plot.
3 Reverse Gravity ♑ 🌜
One of the higher-level spells seen over the course of the film, reverse gravity is a 7th-level transmutation spell that hints early on at the true power of party sorcerer Simon. The spell is only cast once and done so by complete accident, but that doesn't change the fact that it's one of the highest-level spells seen in the movie.
Dungeon masters and players who have played in high-level games know to respect the manner in which reverse gravity can completely shift the landscape of a battlefield. In addition, the spell can also cause a good amount of area of effect falling damage to anyone ✤ca⛄ught inside of it.
2 Meteor Swarm 𝓰
Hailed as the most damage-intensive spell in all of Dungeons & Dragons, meteor swarm is a 9th-level evocation 🐲spell that kicks off the final battle of the film with an absolute bang. Sofina uses the spell to rain down fire and brimstone on our plucky heroes as punishment for thwarting her plans.
Thankfully, Simon has a trick up his sleeve that saves everyone from their imminent doom. Players and DMs alike might argue that the exact manner by which Simon saves the party wouldn't work at the table, but it sure makes for a sweet story moment.
1 Time Stop
Last but certainly not l🃏east, the 9th-level transmutation spell time stop is seen a couple of times over the course of the movie. More than any other spell, time stop shows the audience why players constantly complain that spellcasters are so much more powerful thaꦿn martial characters.
Nonetheless, even the game-breaking power of this 9th-level spell isn't enough to defeat the timeless power of a band of varied heroes. It might be cliche, but we're still going to say it. Truly, nothing can overcome the power of friendship.
