Monstrosities are often amalgamations of multiple creatures from the natural world. Take, for ex🐲ample, the owlbear. The monster's combination of multiple "normal" animals is spelled out in the name. Now that we understand what monstrosities are, let's take a look at their 𝔍most  champions.

10 Behir

The behirs are huge lightning serpents that make their lairs in deep pits and high caverns. Originally created by storm giants as weapons against dragonkind, most behir have since escaped their creators and now live on their own in the wilderness. However, the hate for dragons instilled within them by the giants still lingers. A behir's serpentine body is supported by many, many legs, giving it the appearance of a cross between crocodile and ce👍ntipede. These monsters swallow their prey whole, so if you ever face one be prepared to make a 🌳herculean feat of strength.

9 Roc

The gargan💃tuan roc's sheer size rivals that of even hundreds of years old dragons. Coincidentally, rocs were also created to fight against the dragons in the ancient giant dragon wars. However, instead of being created by the giants themselves, r🌳ocs were made by the god Annam, father of the giant gods.

When the war between giants and dragons finally ended, Annam freed the rocs from their servitude and they took on lives of their own. Since then, rocs dominate the skies over which they hunt looking for large, slow-mo𝕴ving prey such as wh🦄ales, elephants, and even their former giant masters.

8 🤡 ⛄ Gray Render

The gray render is a large, quadrupedal monstrosity that looks much like an alien bear and is a formidable enemy. Thankfully, the creature has an incl𒈔ination towards domestication. Gray renders desire to bond with an intelligent master more than anything, and make for devastating allies in combat. Unfortunately, they're not especially intelligent themselves and are often slaves to their emotions. For example, a gray render ma👍y grow jealous of the horse its master rides on and tear the horse to shreds when its master isn't looking.

7 Yuan-ti Anathema ꦡ

Yuan-ti Anathemas are the apex of yuan-ti society. T🎶hey are the final stage of yuan-ti evolution, and any yuan-ti with high aspirations seeks to eventually take on this form. Anathemas are giant snakes with six snake heads and a pair of arms ending in vicious claws. They can innately cast a number of powerful spells such as polymorph, secrete acid from their skin, and cause all creatures that approach them to be terrified of snakes. Anathemas rival the very yuan-ti gods other yuan-ti serve. While they are rare, when an anathema is born it is venerated as either an avatar of the greater yuan-ti gods or a new god entirely.

6 Angry Sorrowsworn ꦡ

Sorrowsworn are born of the magic inherently found in the Shadowfell. They are manifestations of the plane's desolation. The angry sorrowsworn are the deadliest of them all. Angry sorrowsworn are humanoid looking creatures with hooks for arms and two wailing heads with yellow eyes and jagged teeth. ✅Their bodies are pale and emaciated. Each sorrowsworn personifies a different emotion of the Shadowfell's despair; giving in to the sorrowsworn's personified emotion makes the monstrosity even stronger.

In the case of the angry, dealing damage to an angry gives the angry 🐈advantage on attacks ag🍒ainst the damage's source and makes the angry's next attack more than twice as dangerous.

5 Purple Wor𝄹m 🐬

The poison of a purple worm is highly sought after by assassins, poison peddlers, and other underhanded creatures. Purple worms are gargantuan-sized burrowing monstrosities that primarily dwell in the underground depths of the Underdark. All creatures they cross they regard only as food to sustain their arduous travels through endless amounts of solid rock. As they burrow through long-forgotten rock, purple worms also swal😼low precious metals and gemstones. This, coupled with the prized poison held in their tails, makes them prime targets for overconfident adventurers.

4 Androsp💟hinx

All sphinxes guard great secrets and treasures bestowed upon them by the gods. They are beings of great intellect, testing any who come before them with trials including riddles, quests, and other tasks that prove the worth of their supplicants. Any creature that chooses to take on a sꦑphinx's task is bound to complet🍃e it until death, which likely comes at the great leonine paws of the sphinx itself. Androsphinxes are the male counterparts of the species and are particularly deadly due to their terrible magical roars. While androsphinxes have a downcast disposition to those who would seek them out, don't be fooled. They often have the noblest of hearts.

3 🉐 Astral Dreadnought

Astral dreadnoughts roam the starry skies of the astral plane, hunting down and devouring any creature unlucky enough to cross their paths. These monstrosities feature a singular and incomprehensibly confusing eye that constantly emits an antimagic cone. Their exteriors are covered in spiked plates and their arms end in lobster-like claws large enough to snap a dragon's head from its body. Perhaps most interesting of all, these terrors of the astral plane possess no digestive system. Instead, any creature or object they devour is sent to 🐼a demiplane♛ unique to the dreadnought.

2 Kraken

Krakens dwell in the deepest, darkest pits of the oceans as well as the endless seas of the elemental plane of water. Once serving as warriors to the gods, krakens have long sin🌞c♛e shed these divine shackles in favor of stewing in the depths of the oceans until they find a reason to emerge and reap death and destruction upon the material plane.

Krakens are powerful enough༺ to rival the gods that created them. Some even build cults using their tyrannical influence, rewarding those that would serve them with becalmed seas and bountiful 🔜harvests from the deeps.

1 Tarrasque

The tarrasque is a creature of legend. With a likeness of a tyrannosaurus rex as large as a skyscraper, the tarrasque instills fear in those unfortunate enough to lay their eyes upon it. Its body 🥂is encased in a reflective carapace that nullifies most magics raised against it. Anyone who witnesses the monster awake from its centuries-long slumbers seldom lives to tell the tale. Some scholars posit that only one tarrasque exists, but, in truth, this theory has yet to be verified. The tarrasque is said to sleep beneath the earth. Whether it awakes from its hibernation due to ravenous hunger or the decree from a god from on high, one thing is for certain: entire civilizations will disappear in its wake.
