Wizards are notorious for being what is likely the most powerful class in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons. However, power comes at a cost, as they are also notorious for taking the longest time to get there. Being a low-level Wizard can be a death sentence, and it'll take time to reach the necessary power to be a true menace.
Thus, making a proper build is a good way to ensure your survival, which is why it's important to consider your character's species. Still, there are many interesting options for you to choose from, ensuring your character will be a formidable master of the arcane. Let's discuss some of these options.
10 High Elf
- Source: Player's Handbook
Elves are famous for casting spells. All of them get a Dexterity bonus, helping you not get hit, along with Darkvision, a free Perception, resistance against being charmed, and immunity to sleep magic. You also don't need eight hours to rest, so you can take care of the group while they rest.
Though 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:all Elf lineages are good choices, we🥃 recommend High Elf in particular. They also get an Intelligence boost, which is quite useful for a Wizard, a free cantrip, increasing your arsenal, and a few weapon proficiencies, in case ofജ emergencies.
9 Half-Elf
- Source: Player's Handbook
Though a Charisma bonus won't necessarily be useful, Half-Elves get two +1 to put in other ability scores, which is helpful in itself. They also come with Darkvision, and the resistance against the charm effect, along with sleep magic immunity. They also get two skill proficiencies that can go wherever you want them.
While they're a bit more simple compared to full Elves, Half-Elves leave a bit more room for versatility. Either way, having Elven blood through your veins is good for any Wizard, regardless of which one you choose.
8 Gnome
- Source: Player's Handbook and Monsters of the Multiverse
Gnomes are clever. Their highest bonus goes to Intelligence, and you also get a bonus🐲 on either Dexterity or Constitution, depending on your subrace. But, for all of them, you get Darkvision and an advantage against any magic that forces an Intelligence🅺, Wisdom, or Charisma saving throw.
It's up to you whether you'll go Forest Gnome, Rock Gnome, or Deep Gnome, as they get different cantrips or features to come along with each of them. But either will make a good Wizard — it only depends on what tricks you want for yourself. Deep Gnomes in particular have a second version in Monster of the Multiverse if you want to check it out. They're powerful as well.
7 Yuan-Ti
- Source: Volo's Guide To Monsters or Monsters of the Multiverse
You have two variations of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Yuan-Ti to choose from. Volo's version won't be as good to your Intelligence bonus (though you still get a +1), but it will give you an advantage against any saving throw from any spell or magical effect, and you get poison immunity. Useful when you have the lowest hit die out there.
Multiverse lets you choose where your ability scores go, making it more versatile, but your poison immunity will be swapped for resistance. Your saving throw advantage will also only work on spells rather than any magical effect out there. Oh, and while both versions will give you free spells along the way, only Multiverse lets you choose the ability score. Volo's will force you to go with Charisma.
6 Satyr
- Source: Mythic Odysseys of Theros or Monster of the Multiverse
Let's say you're not done with magical resistance. The other option would be Satyr. Theros' version offers the same type of resistance as Volo's Yuan-Ti, while the Multiverse version of both species works the same as well.
Theros ability scores won't be very helpful either, with Charisma and Dexterity, but both give you Persuasion and Performance skills, along with a musical instrument and the ability to jump higher than normal. Both versions also make you a Fey rather than a Humanoid, making you immune to a lot of spells that only target Humanoid targets, like Hold Person.
5 Tiefling
- Source: Player's Handbook, Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes and Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide
Tieflings are another case where the ability score boosts won't be the best, but the rest of the species makes up for it. You still get a +1 in Intelligence though, along with fire resistance, one of the most common damage types, and a few extra spells, and you have a great list of spells to choose from depending on your Lineage. You'll have to cast them with Charisma — unless your DM is okay with the swap for Intelligence.
However, they have many variations, one of them swapping these spell👍s for wings. Bei𝕴ng able to cast from a safe range is imperative, and wings will help you accomplish that with ease. Aarakocra and Owlin are also good choices for winged characters.
4 Fairy
- Source: Monsters of the Multiverse
Now, let's mix some of the greatest features from the entries above. Do you get to choose where your ability score increases go? Check. Being Fey rather than Humanoid? Check. Free spells, including Faerie Fire, which is a very effective spell that Wizards don't normally get? Check. Wings? Check.
You're also a small creature, which can be good and bad. It depends on the situation, but it has many perks, especially if most of your party members are medium because you can help them with things they can't do, such as squeezing in tiny locations. And, unlike Gnomes, you get to fly, giving you a lot more options in the sneaking department.
3 Dwarf
- Source: Player's Handbook or Monsters of the Multiverse
Dwarf is a curious choice for a Wizard, but doable. They won't be as powerful, but they will be resilient, especially if you intend to get lots of spells that 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:require concentration. You'll get a Constitution bonus, poison resistance, and quite a few weapon and tool proficiencies.
Hill Dwarves will receive extra health which is very useful for a class such as Wizard, and Mountain Dwarves will be able to wear armor, something the average Wizard can't pull off without some feats. Duergar, especially in Monsters of the Multiverse, will give you more freedom with your ability score increases, an advantage to avoid or stop the charmed and the stunned condition, and a few spells along the way.
2 Aasimar
- Source: Monsters of the Multiverse
Not only will your character have style, but it'll also help build your defenses a bit in case you receive damage. With this version, the Aasimar gets to choose where your ability score boosts go, and you get two resistances, necrotic and radiant, responsible for quite powerful spells. You'll also be able to heal with your touch. Nothing big, but it can help in emergencies, such as when the group's support falls first.
You also get to choose one of three Celestial Revelations; one causing lots of radiant damage, one causing the frightened condition, and one where you can🎀 temporarily fly. They all give you extra radiant damage when you hit someone, even with a spell. Except꧂ for the frightened one; its extra damage is necrotic.
1 Human
- Source: Player's Handbook
If no other ideas sounded pleasing, Humans are an amazing choice for Wizards. Or any other class. ꦫHumans, or rather, Variant Humans, get a free skillꦬ proficiency and a free feat at level one. That allows for a lot of customization and power right away.
There are many good feats for a spellcaster, and you won't need to worry about losing ability score increases as you level up, since you'll get at least one feat right away. Custom Lineage is also a perfect choice for the same reason, and you get to swap the skill proficiency for Darkvision, which is always a good thing to have.
