As much fun as it is to create unique and powerful character builds in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons, there's something special about using the magical items that players find on their adventures. Magic items come in a wide variety of forms, ranging from weapons and armor to seemingly mundane oddities that can provide a multitude of strange effects.
However, while magic items such as possess blatant strength, there are other magic artifacts that are deceptively useful, possessing abilities that may be overlooked by a less astute player. So today, we're going to examine underrated magical items from D&D that are better than some players may expect.
Updated on May 16th, 2022 by Paul DiSalvo: As new D&D books are released, the massive catalogue of magic items and artifacts that adventurers can find in their travels grows ever larger. Magic items come in countless forms ranging from offensive and defensive assets like magic weapons and armor to aid a character in combat, to items that offer unique out-of-combat utility. Unfortunately, many of these utility-based items go overlooked when they can provide extraordinary benefits to a party when dealing with problems outside of simply slaying monsters.
15 Ring of Obscuring ♔
Introduced in the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, a Ring of Obscuring is an uncommon magic artifact that can be an excellent option for those who may be looking for a way to make themselves and their party harder to hit in combat. With three charges (and regaining 1d3 of these charges each dawn), a creature attuned to this ring can spend one of these charges to cast Fog Cloud centered on themselves. Fog Cloud is a highly underrated spell that obscures an area, making creatures within it difficult to see and therefore harder to target with spells or hit with attacks. While Fog Cloud is a spell that normally requires concentration, when cast with this ring, the spell lasts for one minute with no concentration required, meaning other potent spells can be easily paired with this effect!
14 ܫ ꧙ Psi Crystal
Appearing in Rime of the Firstmaiden, Psi Crystals are unique uncommon wondrous items that distinctly offer proportional benefits that grow based upon the attuned creature's intelligence. When attuned to this crystal, a creature gains access to telepathy, with the range being dictated by their intelligence. These crystals also function as a light source, producing larger areas of light based on the attuned creature's intelligence. When in the hands of a notably smart character such as a Wizard or Artificer, these crystals are a rare and impressive item that can allow for discreet communication.
13 🐻 Emerald Pen 🃏
Though it may not seem like much at first, an Emerald Pen is a highly underrated item printed in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons that is perfect for a game based around political intrigue. Requiring no ink to use, an Emerald Pen can allow a creature holding it to cast Illusory Script without the need of components. As Illusory Script allows the caster to designate creatures to be able to read a written message normally, while all other creatures are either unable to read it at all or are given access to a false message. This can allow a party to pass off key information where its needed without arising suspicion. While it won't help out in combat, this Pen can be an invaluable magical artefact within the right scenario.
12 🦹 Amulet Of Proof Against Detection and Locatio𓃲n
When dealing with intelligent foes such as liches, necromancers, or even some hags, these adversaries are often able to stay one step ahead by scrying on the party. Simple yet incredibly effective, an Amulet Of Proof Against Detection and Location is an attunable magic item that prevents a character from being scryed upon or viewed using other divination magic. Though this application is somewhat niche, especially if a party is dealing with brutish foes that couldn't care less about tracking the party, an Amulet Of Proof Against Detection and Location is the perfect countermeasure against spellcasting foes that aim to remotely stalk a party with magic.
11 Bell B𝄹ranch🐬
Introduced in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, a Bell Branch is a rare magic item that can only be attuned to by Druids and Warlocks, offering charcters of this class utility comparable to that of a Paladin. A silver branch-like wand adorned with bells, this item has three charges which may be cashed in for two potential effects. On one hand, a charge may be spent to cast Protection from Evil and Good, a great option for Warlocks due to their small number of spell slots, a charge may also be spent to produce an effect reminiscent of a Paladin's Divine Sense, detecting the presence of aberrations, celestials, constructs, elementals, fey, fiends, or undead within 60 feet of the attuned creature. As this branch provides a solid ability that is normally out of the wheelhouses of Druid and Warlock, it is an impressive magical asset, especially for a party lacking a Paladin.
10 🔯 Spider Staff
While several magic items allow an attuned character to cast spells that are blatantly more powerful than the Spider Staff, it's still an excellent magic item that can be quite useful when exploring and dungeon delving. With ten charges (regaining 1d6+4 charges each dawn), the spider Staff's charges can be used to cast the Spider Climb and Web spells. This allows a character improved vertical mobility while simultaneously offering a combat option in Web that they wouldn't otherwise have.
9 🌠Orb Of Time 🉐
While many video games have options to skip forward in time, some D&D players may find that doing so breaks the immersion. Enter the Orb of Time. Appearing in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Xanathar's Guide to Everything, the Orb of Time is a magic artefact that allows a creature to dictate the time of day as long as they are holding꧋ the orb of time and they are on♊ the material plane.
8 🌠 Ring Of Mind Shielding
The Ring of Mind Shielding is a distinct magical Item that prevents an attuned creature wearing the ring from having their mind read by other crea𒉰tures. This ring can be used qui🐽te secretively, as an action, the attuned creature can cause the ring to indefinitely become invisible.
One of the most unique elements of this ring comes in its last ability, as if the attuned creature dies, their soul can be stored within the ring🌊. If anotherꦍ creature becomes attuned to the ring, they can telepathically communicate with the soul within the ring, allowing a deceased character to potentially continue to provide information and communicate with others from beyond the grave.
7 Ruby♛ Of The War Mage
When it comes to characters that mix physical and magical offense, making sure one is keeping track of their weapon, casting focus, and other hand-held gear such as shields can often be a hassle. Ruby of the War Mage is a nifty wondrous item that if held to a weapon for up to ten minutes, becomes permanently attached to that weapon. Once attached, that weapon will now be able to function as a character's magical focus when casting spells!
6 Staff Of The Python ಞ
The Staff of the Python is a stellar staff that once attuned to a character, allows that character to utter a command word that can transform the staff into a giant🌳 constrictor snake. As this snake has its own turn in combat and obeys the verbal commands of the attuned creature, it can serve a role comparable to an additional party member.
While the staff is destroyed if the snake's HP is reduced to zero, simply saying the command word again causes it to regain all lost HP as it turns back into a staff.
