However, we're not considering using the help action on our own characters. Rather, the help action should be used by summoned familiars and other subordinates who don't have powerful attack options of their own.

The existence of the help action is a large part of the reason why Find Familiar is such a powerful spell, and it's the action your familiar ought to be taking on just about every turn in combat.

Consistent advantage in exchange for a first-level spell slot (or for free if you can cast rituals) is a deal that's very difficult to beat. Familiars do have a weakness against area-of-effect spells and abilities but the majority of enemies don't have these kinds of attacks anyways.
