Bigby Presents Glory of the Giants is here, and it offers DMs a wealth of new resources for their 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons and Dragons campaign. While giants haven't gotten much attention from Wizards of the Coast since the release of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Storm King's Thunder, this release shows these massive monsters the love they deserve. DMs are given a 🐬wide variety of tꩵools at their disposal, from adventure hooks to new monsters.
One of the most useful resources the book provides is an entire chapter dedicated to giant enclaves. These are areas meant for running giant-related encounters and simple dungeon crawls. The details for each enclave are sparse: a few sentences on its lore and possible adventure hooks, plus a battle map for running encounters. It's up to individual DMs to figure out how to incorporate each enclave into their campaign, and which monsters and hazards to place in each. Here, they've been ranked based on style and versatility.
18 Dreamer's Reach
Dreamer's Reach is a tranquil clearing surrounded by Stonehenge-like monoliths. The map is large and mostly empty, with few opportunities presented for combat or social encounters. Most of the unique effects of the area only trigger when a character falls asleep or uses divination spells. This map would perhaps have ranked higher with more to do, but unfortunately, it's at the bottom.
17 💧 Forsaken Deep
The Forsaken Deep is a massive ruined fortress under the sea, once the domain of a storm giant. It's a large enough area to run a satisfying dungeon crawl for a session or two, but unfortunately, its usefulness is limited. Few campaigns venture underwater. With some effort, it can possibly be adapted to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:run an ilithid encounter in the ruins of a once-great giant empire.
16 Runic C♈ircle 🌳
The Runic Circle is a dream for any party with a wizard. While there are few opportunities presented for combat or social encounters, the circle has an extensive magical archive and a permanent teleportation circle for the party to use. Most of the recommended encounters revolve around Spelljammer-adjacent adventures, which limits the enclave's versatility.
15 Gale's Eye Tower
The lore surrounding the Gale's Eye Tower is compelling: it was built by a cloud giant to serve as a watchtower against errant interplanar beings. The book goes into detail about how this giant received help from beings from the Elemental Plane of Air. This is useful for DMs who are running 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Princes of the Apocalypse and want to create new encounters for their game. However, there's not much to distinguish this tower map from a generic wizard's tower.
14 Annam's Cradle
Unlike most of the maps presented, Annam's cradle is massive in scale, with one hex the equivalent of six miles. It's a jungle created inside a cave, the result of the god Annam's magic. It's a unique environment suitable for open world campaigns, or as the setting of an entire campaign in and of itself.
But it's not very versatile, and DMs may struggle to find a place for it in their setting. The enclave's massive size also runs the risk of derailing an existing campaign.
13 Grolantor's Larder
Grolantor's Larder is a very straightforward map. It's a valley magically blessed with abundant life, accentuated by a Stonehenge-like circle in its center. The valley is a large, open area, suitable for combat encounters with giants. Parties with a druid can also have fun with the variety of plants and animals in this map. But Grolantor's Larder, while versatile, doesn't have much in terms of personality or distinguishing features.
12 Misty Vale 🌄
Misty Vale is a v🉐alley with an ever-present fog, an abandoned fortress, and unsettling terrain. The details are sparse, but thankfully, the map is complex enough to run a satisfying dungeon crawl. The description makes it suitable for DMs running Curse of Strahd or any other Ravenloft focused campaigns. But the details presented are too vague to lend this map much style.
11 Howling Iceberg 𒀰 ♔
The Howling Iceberg is a unique dungeon, consisting of a cavern carved into ice by members of a frost giant demon cult. That alone gives it several style points, and it's a shame it lacks versatility.
DMs who are running 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rime of the Frostmaiden may find this enclave useful, but a꧃rctic campaign settings are otherwise pretty uncommon.
10 Hiatea's Hearth
Hiatea's Hearth is a huge castle complete with giant-sized furniture. It's the only enclave in the book that properly feels like it belongs in a tome about giants, as most of the other enclaves can be easily reflavored to instead be the works of some other type of creature. The stronghold is great for any party that loves to explore, as DMs can add details and dungeon dressing to their heart's content.
9 Karontor's Hold
At first glance, Karontor's Hold is a no-frills fortress that can provide a fun dungeon crawl for a few sessions. While the enclave is somewhat lacking in personality, it provides some unique story hooks. The book notes that the fortress contains a portal to the Far Realm, which was once instead a gateway to the Feywild.
Astute DMs can, however, choose any plane they like. It's the perfect way to introduce a party to a story arc in another dimension.
