There are spells that debuff enemies or cause distractions long enough for your party to escape. It's easy to look over them because offense is fun and, theoretically helps you to get through each battle faster.

The Spare the Dying cantrip is available to both clerics and artificers and can help to alleviate a little bit of that fear. However, you need to get to them before they go through all three saves.

Pass Without a Trace is every sneaky and non-sneaky character's dream spell because it lasts for an hour and gives you a +10 to every single stealth check you make. Even if you're wearing full plate armor, which gives you a disadvantage on stealth checks, this can help to combat it at least a little bit.
