While not an official playable species in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons is great at being a flexible tool, allowing you to play and be whatever you want. Glory of the Giants takes a deep dive into giants, going further into their ordning, religion, and📖 even aspects of how to roleplay them.
You can make the most of these rules to make your own giant playable species. From the extra character creation options presented to enhance your background to the lore included to properly roleplay them, here's everything you'll need to build your own giant character.
How To Build A Gaint Species
When creating a 'giant' you'll want to choose a species that's as close to huge as is playable. While you can't play a species whose size is larger than "medium" there are some viable options to base your character on:
Species |
Benefit |
Goliath |
The perfect all-around choice, especially for their Mountain Born and Little Giant traits. Acclimating to high altitudes like a storm or cloud giant along with their Stone's Endurance for survival, make them an optimal base choice. |
Firbolg |
Firbolg's, which are already physically large, have the ability to count as one size larger with their Powerful Build trait. Their Firbolg Magic trait to blend in with their surroundings and Speech of Beast and Land trait make for a perfect giant worshiper of Hiatea or Skoraeus, adapting to th🦂eir use of magic or connection with♛ the land. |
Orc |
An orc, with its Powerful Build and Relentless Endurance traits creates traits similar to what you'd find in a giant for survivability and endurance. Utilize the Adrenaline Rush trait to make 'larger' steps like a giant and explain your dash as your giant feet taking you furth💦er every turn than the average creature. |
Shifter |
Embody the aspects of the shifter and turn them into more giant-type descriptions. Use your Beasthide or Shiftstride traits to add that extra health and movement you'd get from a large classified creature. Explain your shifting as a part of you growing into the type of giant you've chosen. |
Genasi |
Perfect for embodying the flavor of giant you're most attached to, your genasi can reflect the element of the giant you want to portray. Use a fire genasi for a fire giant and so on, accepting the genasi traits as your own for the purposes of playing, with flavor text being changed to represent the corresponding giant. |
All of these base species can be found in Mordenkai𓄧nen😼 Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse
As long as your DM allows it, choose whichever species you think will fit your giant the best. If you're going for a specific style or type, you can utilize these base species and adjust as necessary to compliment them as far as a giant would use them.
These are just suggestions for turning base species into giants. You can feel free to use homebrew or other resources that may already have﷽ giant species figured out,💎 as long as your DM allows.
Choose Your Class
Of course, no classes are off-limits regarding what to play as your giant. You'll do the same with your class choice as your species choice, and that's making adjustments based on your choice.
For example, if you're choosing a spellcasting class, consider that giants are known to use runes in your magic. How would that reflect in your spellcasting? Will runes show up wh🃏en you cast spells? Will verbal components be spoken in giant? How will the ancient magic of giants be represented in a flavorful way?
When thinking of a class such as Paladin or Warlock, consider using one of the gods of the ordning as a patron deity. They're perfectly described in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:our guide to the ordning, with options ready to be used for every typeജ of Paladin or Warlock.
You can also consider larger-than-life demon lords or elemental evil options. With the rich history and life of giants, you can dig deep into history to u♑se some of the most complex gods known.
Choose Your Background
The two backgrounds included in Bigby Presents: Glory of the Gia🥃nts is perfect for helping flesh out your character and playing as a giant.
Runecarver
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The runecarver background should be chosen if your giant 🐻character will be a spellcaster. ꧟The background is all about learning the lore and history of magic runes.
Paired with your ability to cast them, you can create a giant that's committed their life to studying the origins of rune magic, taking what you know of your culture and delving into its history for the origin of this mysterious style of casting.
Rune carving is specified based on your background and upbringing, so consider how a giant themselves would go about casting runes. You can inscribe runes on your weapons or items.
Giant Foundling
The other option is 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the giant foundling background. This background refers to a character who has entrenched themselves in giant culture completely. Whether through adoption or, in this case, being born among giants, it's the perfect background to enhance your character as a giant.
You'll learn rune magic and be able to do extra magical damage in battle. This can perfectly complement the choice of giant your character is, with elemental damage reflective of your choice of giant type.
How To Roleplay A Giant
The most important thing to remember is that giants are as diverse as humans, or any other species in D&D. You shouldn't generalize when playing them, approaching them as you would any other character you plan on playing. You should instead focus on what makes them stand out. These are the things that will affect your roleplay and interaction with others.
Focus on the following when determin🍨ing how to roleplay your giant character.
Giant Attribute |
Description |
Size |
When interacting with others and the world around you, remember that you're bigger than everything and everyone. How would you use a mount? Will you fit in a regular inn? Exactly how big are you? Ask your GM to make you a half-giant with giantꦓ attributes and the size of a medium creature if this is concerning for you. |
Age |
Giants are old. The god Annam𒁃 is even believed to be the creator of worlds among giants. This means your perspective on things will be slightly 𓆉skewed. Giants can live anywhere from 200 years to 800 years, depending on their type, so determine how old you are, how much of the world you've seen, and how that affects your worldview. How would you treat the younger races? |
Volume |
Giants are large, and so are their voices. Represent this volume in the game while roleplaying your character, but do not overdo it or make anyone at your table uncomfor♕table. Think of fun ways to incorporate your loud nature. Will it result in a disadvantage roll for stealth? An advantage for intimidation? Work with 🐼your GM to decide. |
Pride |
A prideful species, the ordning details how much some giants feel like they're better than other species, even the subspecies in their own ordning. Take this approach of beingဣ one of the oldest species on the Material Plane and determin🎶e how that might affect your roleplay. |
