Liches are one of the most formidable opponents you can face in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons. They have a high challenge rating due to their abilities, spells, and Legendary Actions. They can also just downright intimidating. All that said, there's no point in having such a powerful weapon and not knowing what to do with it.

It's okay to appear to your players, even if they're already strong enough to take you down. Your Lich can have a phylactery, which can restore the Lich in case it is destroyed. Just keep that thing in a safe place, and you're good to go. The players' main goal will likely be finding and destroying the phylactery too.

That also means you can be reckless when fighting. If the situation is turning bad for you, don't be afraid to use strategies that might actually hurt you or even take you down in the process. You can respawn, so take advantage of that.

Sometimes, for drama's sake, we tend to start fights with weak abilities and powers and let things escalate from there. While that is a fun thing to do, that gives time for the players to prepare themselves. If you want to make a powerful impression on them, it's okay to start with eighth or ninth-level spells right away, especially if this is the final encounter.

Your arsenal consists of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Finger of Death, Disintegrate, Dominate Monster, Power World Stun, and Power World Kill, among many others. Assuming your players are already high-level and can probably resurrect, don't worry about starting with a Power World Kill and just straight-up kill a player in round one. You're essentially forcing the supports to undo the situation and giving you more room to attack the others.

It's tempting to beat players with your bare hands – after all, each melee attack 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:has a chance to paralyze people, and that's just beautiful. However, you are a spellcaster above all, and being ganged up by four or five people around you will be troublesome.

Keeping your distance to c🍰ast your spells will be the safer option for you, and you can keep your melee attack in case the Barbarian reaches up to you ♍– You can use it with a Legendary Action.

As someone who uses a lot of spells, a big concern is people who can do the same. Most players enjoy getting Counterspell and Dispel Magic, and those spells can ruin your tactics. Luckily, you can do the same, as both of these spells are in your repertoire, b🐟ut having them used on you is annoying.

You can target them first or sa🦄ve your Counterspell. You can then Counterspell their Counterspell if they try to stop one of your spells. You can also stop their most powerful spells, dispel concentration spells that are bothering you, or Counterspell their healings too.

6 Be𝐆 Wary Of Paladi🌞ns And Clerics

Though you are immune and resistant to a lot of damage types and conditions, do not forget that you are undead, and two classes are particularly good against undead creatures: Paladins 🌞and Clerics. If the party has one of them – or worse, both &ndas🍌h; You have to be extra vigilant and perhaps focus on them even more than the other spellcasters.

Luckily, you can't be frightened and have an advantage against Turn Undead, saving you from some of their Channel Divinity attacks, but they can still be powerful opponents. A Paladin, for example, will always have an extra die when using Smite against you, and their auras can save themselves and nearby allies from many things, such as your Dominate Monster, depending on 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:what subclass the Paladin is using.

5 Don't Fight By Yourself

This is good advice for any BBEG (big bad evil guy), really. Still, you can animate dead, and Finger of Death can turn someone into an ally if they die – killing a party's ally and turning them into an enemy right away is both useful and dramatic. And you can do that to a player if you're that evil. Or just have minions ready before the fight starts, as less-evil people do.

Targeting Dominate Monster on melee players who are low on Wisdom, such as Barbarians and Fighters, or even Wizards if you want the extra magic help, is also a good way to level the fight. And still have some drama. Can you imagine forcing a player to kill another with this spell? They're going to hate you for that.

4 ꦰ Play Smart

Dungeons And Dragons: Vecna With The Book Of Vile Darkness
Vecna by Julie Dillon

Many previous entries already gave examples of how, but this is an important topic when it comes to Liches. Their Intelligence is a 20. They're often ancient and powerful beings. So don't go pick a fight right in the open without caring about details.

Use traps. Use the aforementioned minions. Have the character appear a few times and even be destroyed just to see the character's tactics, so you can roleplay a Lich that learned from those tactics and is already prepared for them. Popping up and attacking will only work if they're low-level characters. But then, why would you attack low-level characters with a Lich? Plan the encounter. Just don't plan too hard; Players are supposed to win the game, so don't make it impossible to win.

3 ꧃ 💖 Legendary Actions

Another game changer for bosses who need to fight a group of people, Lich's Legendary Actions are pretty fun to use. You can make the aforementioned paralyzing melee attacks here, so they won't consume your action. You can frighten people around you, and you have Disrupt Life, which causes 6d6 necrotic damage around you in a 20ft radius. And since it's not a spell, it can't be stopped.

Though each of these actions costs a different amount 𝔉of points, you have to be careful with your resource management. Stil♊l, you recover all your Legendary Actions on your turn, so nothing stops you from using Disrupt Life over and over.

If Legendary Actions weren't enough to tip the scales, perhaps Lair Actions will. In case the Lich appears multiple times, this will also be a good way to make the final encounter more enticing, with a Lair that helps its ruler against the pesky adventurers.

Liches' Lair Actions can recover spell slots, share damage you received with your opponent, or simply cause damage. And you can create your own if you want to, which leads to the next topic...

1 Homebrew

Homebrewing here will be particularly useful in case you have players who are well aware of Lich's move set, if they are more powerful than you expected, or if you have multiple Liches in the story. Why not tweak them a bit? Make your Lich more unique, creating an original and complex encounter.

For instance, if you want to fight from afar, you can give them Misty Step, and a Legendary Action that triggers it. Or perhaps a Meteor Swarm just for fun. Whatever the case, it's a good trick to catch players off-guard.
