So far, they've fought large monsters and dealt with lots of smaller nuisances, as well as environmental hazards. They've freed prisoners (this is the second time they have freed prisoners and then immediately gotten into an argument with said prisoners), found magical items, and befriended a baby koibra - that's a creature which is part koi carp, part cobra, and yet has four legs despite both of those creatures having zero. Most interesting though has been their reaction to puzzles.

Puzzles can be a dangerous roadblock in Dungeons & Dragons. If a party can't solve them, it can be difficult to move past them, and it also forces them to act out-of-character. Countess Filburilia Walthenstome isn't solving the riddle, Susan is. We don't take getting 'in character' too seriously, but the roadblock problem still exists. I try to leave multiple solutions open and take a 'yes, and' view. So when the group decided to collect teleportation water from elsewhere in the dungeon and throw it at the door rather than solve the puzzle, it wasn't the prescribed solution, but it was a solution nonetheless, so on they went. Time will tell whether using this unofficial solution will cause problems for them later.

It 100 percent will.

Even across four hours of play (a little longer, since it technically began with a single fight in the session before), it will take them most of the next session to get through it. Knowing what they know of the place, what they don't know, and what is still to come, I can't wait to see how they tackle what comes next. I tried to keep the challenges varied in the tunnel, and they still haven't found my three favourite rooms. I wonder how my affection for these creations of mine will survive a meeting with TheGamer's adventuring party.

I'm mostly drawn to the narrative components of Dungeons & Dragons, so it'll be a while until the group next hits upon a dungeon, but more are coming and I still need to finish the ones in another adventure I'm writing. Every footstep taken in this first one has not just progressed their journey, but spun the cogs of thought for future ones like stepping on a pedal. They're still yet to face off against a dragon (my own experiences as a player against dragons have gone poorly), but we've got half the name down, and that's good enough for me.
