There are various setting books currently available for D&D's fifth edition that contain information regarding worlds such as Ravenloft and Eberron.
However, after the recent release of the Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana, there is speculation that a Dragonlance book for fifth edition may be on the horizon. As Dragonlance is a setting that hasn't been featured too prominently within the fifth edition thus far, we're going to shine a light on this setting for those who may be unfamiliar with its history.

What Is Dragonlance
Dragonlance is one of the oldest and most established settings in D&D's history, dating back to the early 1980s. It was created by fantasy authors Laura and Tracy Hickman, with additional development by author Margaret Weis.
While there have been many D&D novels in the past, over 190 novels have been featured in the Dragonlance setting. Due to the massive quantity of Dragonlance content, it is a world filled with a rich history, cultures, and religions, making it perhaps the most fleshed-out world in D&D's history.
Dragonlance is set within the world of Krynn, a realm populated by Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, and Kender, with the latter being included in the previously mentioned Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana. Krynn is also notably home to Draconians, winged creatures with appearances similar to that of a Dragonborn, created through the corruption of a dragon egg. Draconians made their first official fifth edition appearance in Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, in which the five types of Draconians received monster stat blocks.
Magic In Dragonlance
Within the world of Dragonlance, spellcasters are notably part of an organization known as the Wizards of High Sorcery, whose magic was notably influenced by the moon. Spellcasters of Dragonlance are often par🌱t of one of three orders; the Black Robes, the Red Robes, and the White Robes, each of which c𒁃orrelate with different alignment and lunar deity.
As Dragonlance was originally created during the era of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons when various spellcasting classes we know to👍day such as Sorcerers and Warlocks existed, ♑The Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana allows characters to gain magic from these various orders through the use of backgrounds and optional feats.
Additionally, in order to reflect the significant influence that the moon has on the magic within the world of Krynn, this Unearthed Arcana includes a Lunar Magic subclass for Sorcerers, allowing a caster to wield magics influenced byꦏ the different phases of the moon.
What Are Dragonlances?
As their name would suggest, Dragonlances are a key type of weapon native to the setting, noted for their ability to fell dragons. Though not common, these weapons are a key element of the setting and are notably the only means a mortal who lacks the ability to cast magics is saiജd to be able to slay a dragon within Krynn.
The Dragonlance appeared as a Legendary magic item in 2021's Fizban's Treasury of Dragons, fucntioning as a +3 lance or pike that de🐟als additional force damage to dragons.
Who Are The Kender?
While the Kender are among the most prosperous and common races of Dragonlance, they've been completely absent from fifth edition until the release of the Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana, and the last time they were officially playable was back in 3.5 edition.
Kender are a small-sized race with appearances akin to short elves. They're highly regarded for their bravery and tenacity; Kender have also been noted for their expertise in taunting and insulting others, a trait that is directly referenced through their unique Taunt ability within the aforementioned Unearthed Arcana.
What "Heroes Of Krynn" Means For Fifth Edition
While the Heroes of Krynn Unearthed Arcana brings forth new races and a sorcerer subclass for players to enjoy, perhaps the most interesting inclusion within this new batch of playtest material is the selection of new feats it includes. These feats are fundamentally tied to the lore and world of Krynn, whilst offering a unique structure that allows them to function similarly t🎐o a miniature subclass that could be added to any character.
The Divinely Favored, Initiate of High Sorcery, and Knight of Solamnia feats can each function as prerequisites to other feats featured in this Unearthed Arcana, allowing feats to be chained together to gain flavorful magic abilities or privil﷽eges associated with a given knight order.
This is an incredibly interesting design space that we hope to see Wizards of the Coast explore further in the future, as it allows for characters such as chivalrous warlocks part of knightly orders or rogues capable of wielding potent magics to be created without the need for multiclassing — all whilst fitting the flavor of one of D&D's iconic worlds.
