The newly released provides both DMs and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeon Masters tons of new Dragon-related content to D&D. Covering new draconic subclasses, monsters, items, and spells, Fizban’s adds a great deal of exciting new content to the game. A sizable portion of the book is dedicated to fleshing out the lairs and hoards of the different types of dragons that inhabit the multiverse of D&D, providing examples of various lair structures and the types of treasures they’d contain. However, in addition to simply🔥 containing valuable goods, Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons actually introduces a brand new mechanic that allows a dragon’s hoard to augment items it contains. So today, we’re going to shine a lig🥀ht on this new mechanic and explain everything you need to know about it!
8 𓂃 Hoards Are Inherently Magical
It should be noted that as incredibly powerful and magical beings, a dragon’s hoard in D&D isn’t simply a place where a dragon stores its belongings, but a place that is infused with a dragon’s magical essence. As a dragon establishes a lair, the items in its hoard are imbued with magical properti🔯es if they are stored within the dragon’s hoard for at least a year.
7 Stat𓆏es Of Hoard I💟tems
As dragons range greatly in power based on their age, the state an item from a dragon’s hoard takes is linked directly to its age, with the hoards of wyrmlings offering minor effects to items they contain 🤡while items from the hoards of ancient dragons offer incredible power. Based on the age of a dragon, an item obtained from a hoard is considered to be in one of four states: slumbering, stirring, wakened, or ascendant.
6 Temporary Power 💫
Unlike the majority of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:magic items in D&D, the magic of an item taken fromไ a Dragon’s hoard꧃ is technically temporary, and can wane if removed from a hoard for too long. If an item is removed from a hoard, for every thirty days that it is removed, it decreases in one tier of the previously mentioned states until it is considered Slumbering.
However, there is a way to halt this decrease in power. As long as a creature is attuned to a hoard item, this waning power is paused, meaning a character wielding a sword imbued with the magic from a dragon’s h༒oard could indefinitely maintain its power by simply never un-attuning from the item.
5 𝓀 Obtaining Ho𒅌ard Items
When it come🧜s to obtaining these types of items from a dragon’s hoard, there are a few methods players can attempt to use. Firstly, the most straightforward method would simply be to remove an item from a dragon’s hoard, taking it for themselves. Whether it be a gift from a or Treasure stolen from a Chromatic, finding items in this imbued state is a surefire method as long as a dragon has such an item in their hoard.
However, if players were to ask a friendly or ဣwilling dragon if they could steep their mundane weapons and gear within their hoard for a year, this can actually cause items to gain such properties. It should also be noted that if a dragon is killed, its hoard temporarily becomes significantly more volatile, meaning that items can be steeped in the hoard for such an effect, causing the infusion to take place at a much faster speed as long as this is done within an hour of the dragon’s death.
4 Weapons
One of tꦺhe most practical types of items to steep in a Dragon hoard, any type of weapon can grow more powerওful based on if it is slumbering, stirring, wakened, or ascendant.
While slumbering items deal additional damage on critical hits, starting with stirring, each following tier provides the weapon with a cumulative +1 bonus to hit and damage rolls, also supplying an additional amount of d6 damage of the dragon’s damage t🐼ype based on the dragon’s age. When in a wakened or ascendant form, such items even provide access to attacks comparable to 𝄹a dragon’s breath weapon.
3 Arcane Focuses ⛄
In addition to traditional weaponry, arcane focuses 🌳used by spellcasters can gain unique properties through steeping in the hoard of a Dragon. Initially providing a caster with advantage to initiative rolls when in a Slumbering state, the abilities such focuses grant vary greatly as they grow in power based on if the dragon at hand was Chromatic, Gem, or𝄹 Metallic.
In their Stirring f🍃orms, Chromatic focuses provide damage increases, Gem allows for teleportation whenever the creature casts a spell, and Metallic assis💝ts with saving throws. When wakened, these focuses provide access to additional spells that reflect the Dragon’s type, while the Ascendant tier allows a spell to be cast as though it were cast at the 9th level once per day!
2 Vessels
Un🔯iquely, drinking vessels such as bottles and other containers are capable of gaining magical properties through a hoard. As an action once per day, such a vessel can be used to generate a single dictated by the vessel’s tier.
Unfortunately, such potions can’t be kept as they lose their properties after 24 h✱ours pass. While the Slumbering variation is able to create the likes of a Potion of Healing or a Potion of Climbing, the most advanced variations of such a vessel can produce potent potions such as a Potion of Flying, a Potion of Supreme Healing, or even a Potion of Dragon&r💟squo;s Majesty.
1 Ornaments
The last type of item that can be imbued with the power of a dragon in a hoard is ornaments — ranging from capes to accessories like different types of jewelry. As they grow in power, such items provide cumulative benefits, starting with advantage on certain types of saving throws and a bonus to one’s AC. As they reach their most potent forms, such items are able to provide a c👍reature with the gift of flight, allowing them to fly at a speed equal to their walking speed as spectral wings appear from the a𓂃ttuned creature’s back.
