The Dungeon Master's Guide suggests various ways to handle identifying magic items, dealing with attunement, and buying and selling magic items. Unfortunately, this results in magic items functioning quite inconsistently between games.
If you have questions about how magic items work in your campaign, ask your dungeon master. Hopefully, they have already decided how they deal with magic items. If they haven't, encourage them to come to a decision so that the players have some clarity on this often confusing and extrem⛦🗹ely important topic.
Some dungeon masters rule that magic items are immediately noticeable as different from their ordinary counterparts. Other dungeon masters rule that you must interact with a magic item to distinguish that is magical. Worse yet, other dungeon masters still might rule that some magic items are noticeable as magical while other magic items are not.

For example, your character can only wear one pair of magic boots, one magic helmet, or one magic suit of armor at a time. A dungeon master might rule that a character can wear two cloaks or beaꦗr a circlet underneath their helmet, however, these are special rules cases.
