How did these dragons become gods in the f෴irst place?

The origins of the skeletal Lord of Bones is a complicat🐎ed tale, having once been a mortal man who had divine aspirations and has since gone on to become much🤡 more. Let’s take a look into the lore surrounding The Deathless Lord of Death himself.

The Mortal Origins Of A God

Myrkul, God of Death from Baldur's Gate 3

Once a regular human necromancer, the man known as Myrkul Bey al-Kursi was the Crown Prince of a nation in east Faerun called Murghôm, who would go on adventures throughout the realms. During this time, Myrkul would travel 🔯with two other beings who would go on to become gods, Bane and Bhaal.

The three of them 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:took ⛄on the quest to discover divinity, to become gods and elevate themselv🅰es above the rest of the mortals in Faerun. Eventually their travels would take thꦯem to the realm of one the Seven Lost Gods, Maram of the Great Spear.

This demigod, an ancient primordial and one of the elder evils of Faerun’s꧙ past, was slain by Myrkul, Bane, and Bhaal and🌄 an army that they had gathered.

The Nine Helꦫls are the realm of devils in the Dungeons & Dragons cosmol🍰ogy.

There, at the Monument of the Ancients, Myrkul gained a taste of di﷽vinity. This encouraged the three adventurers, pulling them forward. Eventually, they would come to the Lord of the End of Everything, Jergal, the 🌱original god of death before he willingly gave up his position to the three.

However, only one can sit on the throne, and the three could not decide who should take it. Letting luck take the reins, they entered a game of skull bowling at Jergal’s suggesti🎉on. Initially, the game was played with the skulls of Jergal’s most powerful liches, but the game was interrupted by Malar, a lesser deity known as The Beast of Beasts.

Then Jergal suggested a game of knucklebones, a gambling game that uses real knuckles in place of dice, with each player pﷺicking one aspe💎ct of Jergal’s dominion as their own.

Bane took first place, choosing to become the god of tyranny, Myrkul took second, who picked to rule the dead, with Bhaal becoming the god of murder. Now as the Lord of the Dead, the Lord of Bones, and The Reaper, Myrkul would rule the underworld, becoming an entity of fear 𒐪❀in the heart of every mortal.

What Does Myrkul Look Like?

Before his rise to divinity, Myrkul Bey al-Kursi was something of a recluse, keeping to himself and withdrawing from most of the world. It was said that he spoke gently, in a high-pitched voice. As a demigod, he has disca♏rded his human guise, appearing as a human skeleton draped in long black robes, carrying wit൲h him a deadly scythe.

Depictions of him may vary, but many parts are consistent. 168澳洲幸运5开奖🐭网:His face has been sunken in with time and🔯 death, with his wrinkly skin blackened and cracked open while his eyes are lost in the deep wells of his sockets. To a🌟n observer, they seem ꦯto glow with a cold and evil light.

His body diverges from that of a normal human’s skeleton beyond his shoulders, featuring four arms to better reap the dead. Further down, past his waist, layers of withered flesh and sinew hide rotting legs and decayed feet, which he no longer needs as he floats gently off the grou📖nd.

The Fall

Years later, Myrkul would find himself working with his former compatriot Bane to steal the Tablets of Fate from a god of immense power, the overgod Ao. The two conspired t👍o weaken the o🦋vergod by taking control of the Tablets, giving the two the chance to overthrow their rule.

Their efforts were in vain, however, as Ao still had plenty of power to banish them to Toril, the planet that Faerun, and much of Dungeons & Dragons takes place on, greatly reduced in power.

Not content with his life, Myrkul continued to pursue the Tablets of Fate with Bane, claiming one from the Temple of Torm’s Coming located in the city of Tantras. The second Tablet of Fate rested in the hands of Midnight who was keeping it safe at Waterdeep.

Myrkul invaded the city, terrorizing the townsfolk with an army of undead. Myrkul’s physical form was destroyed, shattered by Midnight at the peak of Blackstaff Tow🍰er.

That wasn’t the end of Myrkul, however. The remains of his physical form were carried on the wind far to the north, falling over the Mere of Dead Men south of Neverwinter. The ambient magic in his remains was still powerful enough to cause the dead to rise in the swamps.

In the last seconds before his defeat, Myrkul imbued a portion of his 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:magic into the Crown of Horns. The Crown could influence the wearer, making them perform Myrkul’s will and spreading his influence across the world.

Defeated and dethroned, Myrkul existed in a sort of limbo, but even in this state and with a new God of Death, Cyric, running the underworld, 🅷Myꦇrkul had worshipers and temples in the world.

After the catastrophic Second Sundering of the worlds Toril and Abeir by Ao, Myrkul was restored as one of many gods of death, though as a weaker quasi-deity.
