Known also as the City of Doors, Sigil is a strange yet familiar place, with more people passing by than actually living in it. It’s considered to be the center of the multiverse, with travelers of every single known species tr🌟ading for all sorts of goods. While the City holds plenty of opportunities, its shifting nature can make it easy for someone to get lost.
Where Is Sigil?
Sigil is located in the Outlands, a True Neutral Plane 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:at the center of all Planes. As a mostly barren wasteland, the Outlands' main property is the connection to other planes. Of biggest note is the plethora of portals to other planes you&rs🎐quo;ll find in it, and that magic becomes less effective as you reach the center of the plane.
At this center is an impossibly large mountain known as the Spire, and visible at the top of it lies Sigil. This is why the City is considered to꧟ be at the center of the multiverse, since it lies at the very middle of the central Plane. Yet even if you know where Sigil is, you wouldn’t be able to get inside by simply flying to it.
How Does Sigil Work?
At the pointed tip of the Spire there's a massive floating ring, and at the inside of it is the City made. This means that if you look up while standing on Sigil’s streets, you’ll see the rooftops of the other side of the City. While this might seem confusing, the locals and reg♒ular travelers are more than used to it.
Beyond its peculiar shape, Sigil has plenty of services to offer, mostly due to its methods of travel. Since you can’t enter the City by road, you’ll have to use one of its innumerable portals, or “Doors”. These Doors are what make the City so connected, and the reason why it’s the cent🐲er of multiversal tradꦏe.

Dungeons &am💝p; D♚ragons: Challenge Ratings, Explained
⛄Mastering ❀Challenge Rating is your key to crafting the perfect balance.
For plenty of travelers, Sigil is the best way to get to where they want to go. Many planes are nearly impossible to access by any other means, while in Sigil everything is a doorway away. You’d still need to find the Door that t⛎akes 🎐you where you want, and life in Sigil isn’t exactly safe.
The bulk of the trade in the City has to do with travel, so you’d find plenty of inns and merchants of exotic goods✅. While Sigil is an expensive place, the services are so unique that it’s more than worth it. If you’re looking to remain for a long period of time, however, you should be wary of the Lady.
Who Rules Sigil?
The strongest being in Sigil is the Lady of Pain. She’s a complete mystery for even the oldest denizens of the City, with even her face hiddenꦛ behind a bladed mask. Yet she doesn’t exactly lead Sigil, she mostly maintains the status quo.
There have been many attempts to take absolute control of Sigil by many Factions. Controlling the center of the multiverse is enticing to many people, but the Lady is always there to prevent that. Her power within Sigil is nearly absolute, yet worshiping her is strictly forbidden.
The Lady’s main method of p♊unishment is sending the offending 🃏party to an impossible labyrinth, where they’ll likely die.
With the Lady keeping anyone from attaining absolute power, Sigil ends up being broken up into small Factions that regulate law, trade, and o🙈ther things. They mostly🍌 keep to themselves, because if they start fighting each other at any significant scale, the Lady might come for them.
Beyond all factions and the Lady herself, there are the Dabus. These creatures are what keep the city infrastructure together, building and reshaping the City as they see fit. They al💝so serve as the eyes and ears of the Lady, so people fear and respect the Dabus as much as they do her.
Where Did Sigil Come From?
There are many theories, and while no one will ever know for certain, all of them revolve arou꧑nd the Lady of Pain. With her absolute control of the City, and the fact that she can even keep the gods from entering her domain, it makes sense that Sigil and the Lady are intrinsically linked.

Dungeons & Dragons: The Demogorgon🅠, Explained
The two-headed Prince of Dem🎃ons is a big part of Dungeons & Dragons lore.
The simplest answer is that Sigil and the Lady were always there, since the beginning of time. Th🎀is is widely believed by the locals that don’t want to think about it too much, since asking too many questions about the Lady could earn you her wrath.
The likely answer is that the Lady was a deity or archdevil of some sort, now long forgotten, that is now imprisoned. See, while the Lady controls who moves in and out of her City, she li🌼kely can’t leave it herself. She might be called the Lady of Pain for all the suffering she endures every day.
Using Sigil In A Campaign
The point of Sigil is that it’s a hub leading to many places, so you can either use it as a centerpiece of your adventure or as a tool for it. In both scenarios, the main factors are the serv💦ices, the citizens, and the Lady of Paiไn.
As a tool, the Cit𒈔y might not need to be fleshed out too much. Sigil is a place where you can find any item, information, or Doorway you might need. You can even have adventures go back to it regularly, having a room at your favorite Inn while going out to all sorts of adventures.
If you’re planning a campaign inside Sigil, you’ll have to consider more asp🍨ects of the City⛄, like how life is different within it. As a True Neutral zone, you could find Angels and Devils having a drink and sharing stories, so lean into this idea of unique encounters. Sigil is definitely not peaceful, but you’ll never find all out war while there.
The Lady of Pain is a creature that keeps the realm balanced, so there’s a reason she has absolute power. Players shouldn’t look to overthrow or befriend the Lady, since those things are impossible. She also shouldn’t be actively chasing the players, so try your best to dissuade them from trying to kill the unkillable. And don’t answer the mystery of her origin, since the point is that no one knows.
