One of the most iconic spells in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons, Polymorph, is often the subject of much discussion and debating between parties and their Dungeon Master. Allowing a player to shapeshift into a creature of their choosing (or ﷽sometimes not), 💝Polymorph is a powerful spell that can help turn the tide in an encounter.

Dungeons & Drag🦋ons offers up a wide spread of monsters and beasts to summon and do battle against, and here are some of the most ferocious.

Polymorph is one of those spells that people either love to 🦩use or hate to deal with. On both ends, there are a lot of rules and stipulations that come with it that some may consider overpowered. However, none can deny that it is an amazing spell every player should try to use at least once in their D&D career.

The “Polymorph” Spell Explained

As the Player’s Handbook describes, the Polymorph spell allows a player to transform into a creature of their choosing. A fourth-level transmutation ♐concentration spell, Polymorph, will last up to one hour or when the character drops to zero hitpoints (whic🌠hever comes first).

The crea🌌ture that the character chooses to transform into must fall under the following guidelines:

  • Be under the “Beast” category.
  • Have a Challenge Rating equal to or less than the character’s current level.

A lesser-known fact about Polymorph is that it can also be cast on a different creature unwillingly, ౠas long as the target fails a Wisdom saving throw (the DC is designated by the caster’s spell DC).

While under the effects of Polymorph, they can only perform Actions and Movements based on what they transformed into, with any equipment or items they were carrying being absorbed into their body simultaneously. While their physical traits and ability scores change, they will maintain their awareness and personality.

Despite possibly🍌 having magic items attached to their new body, they will not be able to use them while under the effects of Polymorph, nor will they be dropped/ given to another character for 𒉰use.

Damage taken is also calculated differently while using Polymorph. Any damage you take will go to your new form’s hitpoints, before carrying over to your own.

For example, if a character is Polymorphed into an Owlbear (which has 59 hit points) and takes 20 damage, they will be reduced to 39 hit points, but their original health is still the same. However, if they have 39 hitpoints and take 45 damage, since their Polymorph form is reduced to zero, they will revert to their original self, and the remaining 6 damage is inflicted on the character’s original health.

As long as the damage carried ov﷽er does not drop the character’s original hitpoints to zero, they will not be knocked Unconscious. It is also worth noting that since this is a concentration spell, each time damage is taken, they must succeed on a🥀 Concentration save to remain in their Polymorph form.

With Polymorph, you can transform into a Beast of equal rating to your character level, allowing you to access an incredible range of abilities. You can even transform into beasts at higher levels, like a Tyrannosaurus Rex, a Mammoth, a Giant Shark, and many more.

The main ruling associated with Polymorph that makes this considered overpowered is how when you drop to zero hitpoints in your Polymorphed state, you simply revert to your original form without a scratch on you (besides a missing spell slot and any reduced hitpoints from damage carried over). More often than not, a player can just Polymorph themselves back into that form and spend another few rounds of combat in a much more powerful state.

The main counter to Polymorph is that it is a Concentration spell, so any high-hitting damage will greatly improve a character's chances of falling out of Polymorph. At the same time, good luck to a Rogue tryi൩ng to Sneak Attack a T-Rex successfully.
