One of the first decisions you'll make is what species you want your character to be. Even here there are a wide variety of options to choose from. One such option that was a bit of a later option for fifth edition was that of the tabaxi. These feline adventurers have some important features that make them stand out from other species options. But, there are definitely some things to keep in mind when building your own adventuring tabaxi.
8 Ni൲ght Scouting
Tabaxi are one of a handful of species wi🐻th natural darksight. This becomes incredibly helpful in any dungeon or night encoun🐈ter.
60 feet of darkvision is an impressive ability that can often make you the leading person in a party when exploring dark spaces. Use this to your advantage and lead night raids on enemy encampments. You can also scout ahead at night in new areas when most enemies would be asleep — this will help your 𓆏party keep an edge on anything wishing them harm.
7 Using Your Agility ꩵ
Like any cat, tabaxi are incredibly agile, and they have the features to prove it. One of the first benefits of playing as a tabaxi you'll notice is their feline agility trait. Any cat owner knows they love to run around, and they do so quite well. Well, tabaxi are no different. They have a movement speed of thirty feet, which is a great start and is faster than many other species.
In addition, the aforementioned feline agility allows them to double this speed for one turn, wit🥀h a recharge period after not moving at all during a later turn. This is a great move at the onset of combat or when you need an extra push to get away from a particularly deadly enemy.
6 Claws Out
Another big plus for tabaxi is their claws. These actually benefit this species in a couple of different ways, both of which can 🔯definitely come in handy.
Your climbing speed is boosted up to 20 feet thanks to your ability to sink your claws into whatever you want to climb up. You can sink your claws into enemies too. Your claws do 1d4 plus your strength score of slashing damage, which is great for when you😼 are without a weapon, or you need to attack with your offhand for a quick amount of damage.
5 Catlike Reflꦯexes 🐭
Tabaxi have an extra plus one boost towards charisma and dexterity. ꦇThis can be incredibly helpful when considering what kind of class you want to play as, and where you want to put your other ability points at.
This will be an extra boon towards monks, bards, and any other dexterity or charisma-based class, but don't feel like you are locked into one of these choices. They can be fun to work against too, with a wizard or other class that doesn't focus on these skills. Plus, a little extra dodging and smooth talking is never a bad thing.
4 Extra Proficiencie🔥s
There are a lot of different reasons you may♓ be tempted to play a tabaxi, butꦯ one such reason that is a definite benefit is the extra proficiencies.
Any tabaxi gets extra proficiencies in both perception and stealth. These are great additional benefits regardless whether or not you want to dive into a class that focuses on them. Much like the ability scores, they are just a great added benefit for y🌜our character to excel in.
3 ✱ Martial Classes 🍎
While you aren't locked into a class, there are some that are easier to work with if you want to min/max your character creation based on skills.
Rogues, rangers, fighters, and similar martial classes will have added benefit from most of the class' features. From the unarmed attacks, to the extra dexterity, and everything in between, all of which will add to a martial fighter's prowess. That is not to say that you can't focus on a spell-casting class. In fact, doing so can be a lot of fun.
2 ༺ Knowing🐠 Your Clan
There are some things to consider when working on your backstory for your tabaxi character. One such thing is what your character's clan looks like. Tabaxi often live in clans that avoid interaction with other societies. Figuring out what your character's clan was like and why they chose to leave it to begin adventuring is a big part of your backstory.
There's no right way to do this, and the options available are as limitless as your imagination. It's never a bad option to go for the classic orphaned character, but it may be a bit harder trying to write off a whole clan. Remember, there's no deadlier profession than being the parent of a D&D character.
1 𓆏 Using The Different Books
One thing that can get confusing when thinking about your tabaxi is what book you wa𝐆nt to use when making your character.
There are versions of the tabaxi found in Monster of the Multiverse, and Volo's Guide to Monsters. They can also be found in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, but the content there is the same as seen in Volo's Guide, so one less decision to make. You'll definitely need to talk to your DM about what books are good to use and which ones they would rather avoid. Which book they choose could alter some of the features specified in the species.
