Perhaps the coolest-looking species in the game, Dragonborns are a staple of the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dungeons & Dragons franchise. Being a Dragon humanoid is already a fun concept, and many fun perks come with the species. However, it's also known in the community for being a bit weaker compared to others, but there are ways around that.
In terms of mechanics, roleplaying, and lore, there are quite a few interesting details to read about to prepare your powerful Dragonborn character. Just keep in mind that lore-based details may not apply if you're playing in a homebrew scenario.
5 Chrom🎃atic And Metallic Dragons (And How It Affects You)
Dragons are separated in many colors, but there are two main groups: Chromatic, where it uses basic colors for the dragons (such as red, green, blue, etc.), and Metallic, where the colors are based on metallic materials (Bronze, Copper, Gold, etc.). The Player's Handbook gives you a few options, mixed between these two categories.
In terms of gameplay and combat, these colors will dictate two aspects of your character: Their breath weapon, an elemental area attack that you can pull off once per long rest - though it can be different, as we'll mention later - and resistance to a type of damage.
For example, a Red Dragonborn is resistant to fire damage and can breathe fire upon their enemies in a 15ft cone. Some breath weapons also attack 𝔍in a line rather than a cone.
Story-wise, Chromatic dragons are usually seen as evil creatures since they're all 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:descendants of Tiamat, who is also evil. Metallic Dragons are seen as good creatures. That doesn't dictate your alignment, as you can be a good Red Dragonborn or an evil Gold Dragonborn, but that gives you a fun backstory idea where you're part of a good or evil legacy.
This detail is often ignored, but nothing stops you from using it and makꦆing it a big part of your character.
4 Fizban's Treasury Of Dragons
As mentioned in the beginning, Dragonborns are not as powerful as they look, making other species better options if you're going strictly for min-maxing your character. However, there are a few expansion books that offer you more room for customization. But the best one is Fizban's Treasury of Dragons.
First, it separates the Chromatic and Metallic categories better, and not on♐ly do you get bonuses for your color, but also for being either a Chromatic or a Metallic Dragonborn. It also creates a third category, Gem Dragonborns, which can be used for some interesting and fun concepts.
Chromatics can be immune to the damage they're resistant to for one minute, Metallics get a second breath attack, that can either incapacitate or push enemies away, and Gems can fly and hover for a minute.
When using this book, your breath weapons also cost only one attack instead of the whole action, and can be used more often. The damage is slightly decreased though, bu🌱t it is still worth it.
Gem Dragonborns are worth looking at because their breath attacks and resistances use damage types that are uncommon to have in the hands of a player.🐽 You can be resistant to Force or Psychic damage, for example.
You could create a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Totem Warrior Barbarian that is an Emerald Dragonborn, and obtain resistance to all damage types, just for the fun of the concept. Oh, and using this book for character creatio♑n lets you add ability score bonuses wherever you see fit.
3 How People Perceive You ꧙
Dragonborns can cause a good range of reactions when𒀰ever they show up. They have a unique appearance and resemble some of the mightiest and most dangerous creatures throughout the realms. That means people will either look at you in awe or terror. Or they might just find you odd.
All these options can give you powerful backstory concepts and roleplaying opportunities when you're already at the table. You can be the person who has to convince others that you're not a monster, or you can use the horror of the dragons to intimidate those who wish to harm you.
Or you may simply not care and just try to live your life in peace, ignoring others' reactions to your presence. Check with the DM on how Dragonborns are treated in their world, and see how much fun you can have with it.
2 🗹 What Classes Are Good For You?
If we go by the Player's Handbook, anything that relies on Strength and Charisma is your friend, as the former will be increased by two and the latter by one. That screams Paladin right away, who can use both physical prowess and divine power to fight against their enemies.
Getting resistance as well will make you an even better tank, and the opportunity to hit multiple people with a breath weapon is nice. Probably won't hurt a lot, but you can get the attention of multiple enemies, exerting your tank function well.
Fizban's lets you choose your ability score increases and offer nice breath weapon changes, allowing you to do many other interesting builds. Spellcasters will have a fun time being Dragonborn, as the resistance can help you with your low health bar, and feats can help you here too - more on them later.
But this versatility also improves for the aforementioned tanks. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Barbarians and Fighters will excel in the frontline too with extra resistance, in case you don't feel like being a Paladin.
1 ꦑ Your Racial Feats
Truth be told, Dragonborns don't get the most exciting racial feats out there. From the two options Xanathar's Guide offers you, we have a niche feat and a very niche feat. Regardless, they can still be useful depending on your build.
Dragon Hide gives you claws as natural weapons, 🎃hitting a d4 + Strength, and it increases either your Strength, Constitution, or Charisma by one. The nicest part here however is making you🔯r scales harder, changing your base Armor Class calculation to 13 + your Dexterity, instead of the average 10 + Dexterity.
A free Mage Armor that is always on. A little useful for spellcasters so you won't need to use spell slots for Mage Armor, but this feat is more useful for Fighters and Rogues, so they can ditch light armor, as 13 is a higher bonus that they can offer.
You can still use a shield, so when you hit 20 with your Dexterity, your AC will go to 18 without shields, and 20 with them. Or more if it's a magical shield.
168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Fear is yet another reason why Dragonborns make good tanks. You can use your breath weapon to roar, forcing all enemies nearby into a Wisdom saving throw. If they ൲fail, they will be frightened, and that☂ is a nasty condition to have.
They can try ending the condition whenever they get hit, but otherwise, it'll last for a minute. An effective crowd control mechanic and, since Fizban's allows you to use breath weapons more often, you can also use this trait more often, or scare an enemy and attack on the same turn.
The 🐼attack may still end the condition, but it still works. And it also gives you a plus one to put in one of the same ability scores men𒁏tioned in Dragon Hide.
