It's not easy to become a god in but there is one spell in the history of the game that made the goal easy to accomplish. The only twelfth level spell in the history of the series offereꦬd a taste of divinity, but players shouldn't seek out its power, as it s🦩ingle-handily brought down an entire empire of spellcasters.

In Dungeons & Dragons, t𝓀he primary spellcaster classes have spell levels that range from zero to nine. T🍰he zero level spells represent the weakest magical abilities, such as creating light, while the ninth level spells involve stopping time or changing reality itself with a wish.

There are some Dungeons & Dragons books that provide rules for epic levels of play, which include spells above level nine. In Advanced Dungeons & Dragons, there was a book that included a twelfth level spell - Karsus's Avatar.

Dungeons & Dragons Netheril

The function of Karsus's Avatar (as described in Netheril: Empire of Magic) is that it lets the character become a god by usurping the position of an existing deity. The full list of components for the sp💧ell is unknown, but it does require the stone-filled gizzard of a gold dragon and part of 🔥the epidermis of the pituitary gland of the tarrasque just to enchant one of the materials needed, so it's not going to be an easy task to cast it.

Karsus's Avatar was created by one of the most powerful wizards who ever walked the Forgotten Realms. Karsus resided in the empire of Netheril, which was run by mages who crafted floating cities. Netheril was opposed by an evil race known as the Phaerimm, whose spellcasting ability matched those of the mages within the empire. After decades of war with the Phaerimm, Karsus decided to end the war by becoming the new god of magic. He used the Karsus's Avatar spell to steal the power of Mystryl, the goddess of magic. The spell worked, but it backfired instantly, as Karsus wasn't up to the task of maintaining the Weave, which is the source of all magic in Faerun. My♎stryl sacrificed herself in order to save the Weave and magic ceased to function for a short while. It was around this time that the people of Netheril realized the folly of living in floating cities, as the magic keeping them in the air stopped working and the entire empire came crashing down.

There might be some Dungeons & Dragons players out there who think that divinity can be earned by casting the wish spell, but this is just handing the DM a hand-written invitation to kill your character. The Karsus's Avatar spell is a guaranteed shot at godhood, so long as the player can acquire the knowledge of how to cast the spell, find the necessary ingredients, and become strong enough to cast it in the first place. If your character manages to gain both the power and knowledge to cast Karsus's Avatar, then just make sure to pick any other god to pinch from than the g🅰od of magic, or if you do, make sure th🅰ey're standing on the ground and not in a floating city.
