Pokémon Sword & Shield introduced the Dynamaxing mechanic to the series. Dynamaxing allows a to transform into a giant for three turns, giving it a huge boost to its HP and granting it special moves. There are some Pokémon that can turn into unique forms when they Dꦗynamax, which is a process known as Gigantamaxing, and these gain access to incredibly powerful special atta🎃cks.
The Dynamaxing mechanic has received a mixed reception from fans. There are some who believe that inflating a Pokémon's size isn't as visually interesting as the unique designs that were created for Mega Evolutions, while some think the special attacks are too powerful, especially compared to Z-Moves. The fact that Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves were cut from Pokémon Sword & Shield didn't help matters. As such, many fans are wondering if the Dynamax mechanic will return in future Pokémon video games?
The Switch Generation - Yes
Nintendo has said that the Switch will have a longer lifespan than previous Nintendo consoles. Based on the incredible sales of the system, we're inclined to believe that. The Switch isn't going anywhere (outside of console revisions), which means that we are almost certainly going to see more Pokémon games on the Switch.
The Dynamax mechanic will almost certainly remain in any future Pokémon games that are released on the Switch, including any remakes of older games. A lot of work went into creating the mechanic and Game Freak isn't going to toss it aside after one set of Pokémon games. At most, the developers will c👍hange it slightly for balance reasons in future gam🦋es, but it's not going anywhere.
The Next Generation - Probably Not
The future doesn't look bright for the Dynamax mechanic in future games. Game Freak int♏roduced Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves in the N🤡intendo 3DS generation of games, and these were cast aside when the series made the jump to the Switch.
It seems that the developers want to keep things fresh by adding and removing game-changing mechanics over time. Pokémon Sword & Shield might have been too complex if it retained Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves, and it would mean that half of the party could pack a super-special power-up, diminishing their value (as well as that of the other three members of the team). Pokémon Sword & Shield already established that 🗹Dynamaxing ca🌱n only occur in specific places, so it has a built-in reason for not being present in other regions.
It's likely that future Pokémon games that are released on systems other than Switch will repl🥂ace the Dynamax ๊mechanic with something new.
It Could Return For A Crazy Entry That Brings Back Everything (Megas, Z-Moves)
It's possible that in years to come that Game Freak could release a crazy Pokémon battle-focused game that brings back all of the old mechanics, including Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. It would likely happen at the end of a console generation and would include all of the Pokémon available up to that point. It could also be a new entry in the Pokémon Stadium series, made to accommodate the hardcore battling fans. If that happens, then Dynamaxing has a great shot at reappearing as a mechanic, but it's unlikely 𝔍to reappear in another core game after the Switch generation.
Pokémon Sword & Shield are available now for Nintendo Switch.
