The series began life on the Wii U, before receiving a more ambitious sequel on Switch which adde😼d way more visual styles, objects to place, and gameplay mechanics.

Nintendo gave players all the tools needed to create their own Mario levels, and out of this formed a passionate community that loved to challenge one another with incredibly hard gauntlets, alon🍰gside those who opted for more relaxing affairs. Even if I neve𒅌r made levels of my own, I loved to witness others.

Su🍨per Mario Maker allowed you to switch between a variety of styles and physics systems from different entries, and Zelda could do the same. What about A Link To The Past, Minish Cap, Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and Echoes of Wisdom. All bangers with so many recognisable mechanics an💛d designs to draw from.

Players spent decades playing 2D Mario games, replaying them so many times that we could close our eyes and picture entire levels in our minds. But it wasn’t just the layout we conjured, but the design, mechanics, and intentions all of these classics had. When Mario Makౠe🍎r came along and allowed us to create stages of our own, everything about it felt natural. Being able to drag the stylus to create landscapes and place enemies as we switched between several different aesthetics was a delight, and a surefire way to embrace our own creativity.

Ever since then, people have been asking for a Zelda Maker, something that does exactly what we saw with Mario but in the vein of A Link To The Past and Minish Cap. A chance to create our own epic adventures across Hyrule or design layered dungeons to challenge all other playe𒅌rs with. It could use the same pie🍒cemeal approach, considering Zelda has such a history to draw from, and I can already imagine what sort of challenges I’d piece together.

Echoes of Wisdom only further whet my appetite for a game like this, because it builds🦋 the foundations a Zelda Maker experience would take advantage of. Nintendo didn’t wish Zelda to be a carbon copy of Link with all the same abilities, so they gave her a staff which uses the world around her to her advanta𒁃ge. Upon learning echoes of objects and creatures, they can be summoned at will to kill enemies and solve puzzles. You are limited by how many of these echoes you can summon at one time, but even that is enough to craft Hyrule in your own image.

I began using a similar roster of echoes throughout my entire playthrough, but was never afraid to experiment whenever I found something new. Zelda titles such as this are normally very strict in their solutions, often expecting the player to take a singular approach to solving puzzles or defeating bosses, but 💛Echoes of Wisdom throws everything we know to the wayside because it has to. Give the player such control and there is no choice but to change the underlying game design. This could spell disaster in most scenarios, but Nintendo has proven that modern Zelda is more than capable of rising to the challenge.

Now imaginജe this freeform gameplay being transported into a Zelda 🐼Maker where you can go anywhere and do anything, no longer confined by the predictable format the series has stuck to for decades. An opportunity to recreate classic dungeons in a new light, implement any theme that comes to mind, or even venture outside of dungeons to present Hyrule in myriad different ways. Zelda players have always been curious and willing to welcome change, and it would be incredible to see the community enact some of that themselves.

Part of me fears Nintendo is too precious about Zelda to of♔fer us this level of freedom, as it will risk sullying such a prestigious legacy. But I thought the exact same thing before Super Mario Maker came along, and that provided us with unparalleled freedom with how it toyed with new and existing aesthetics to tap at the simple yet el🍎egant fun at the centre.

Super Zelda Maker could even be a sequel to Echoes of Wisdom. Imagine if a strange force suddenly sucks out entire parts of the world, leaving them empty and life♛less until Zelda can step in and rebuild them using an enhanced echo system. That way, you not only have all the necessary creation tools, but a single-player campaign to go along with it. The potential here is limitless, and after Zelda’s first solo outing, her next adventure could be just like that.
