It certainly sounds like Souls' formula, but the story doesn't necessarily ring true to the usual aim of linking or usurping the flame. Depending on what's considered canon in Dark Souls 3, it could be✃ that this age of Elden Lords is the long-awaited age of man, if it truly is a sequel as Martin says.
However, as mentioned prior, it could be that Martin has simply mixed up the term sequel 𝐆with a spiritual successor. Maybe it's not Dark Souls 4, but perhaps there'll be some small conn🎃ections that say otherwise when we actually dive in. At least, beyond the usual Patches and Moonlight Greatsword appearances.
