Updated December 19, 2023, by Sean Murray: Bloodhound's Fang remains one of the best weapons in Elden Ring, which is why we've updated this guide with better formatting and more tips for how to obtain and use this curved greatsword. We've also added more links to other helpful Elden Ring topics.

Where To Find The Bloodhound’s Fang

Elden Ring Bloodhound's Fang location

The Bloodhound’s Fang can be found in the south of the game’s starting area, Limgrave, north of the Bridge Of Sacrifice that leads to the Weeping Peninsula. The exact location where you will find the greatsword is pictured above and is named the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

Simply finding this location will not be enough to obtain the Bloodhound’s Fang, however. You will instead need to defeat the enemy trapped inside the Forlorn Hound Evergaol.

To begin this fight, head to the center of the Evergaol and choose the interact option. From here, you will be transported to what seems to be an alternate version of the Lands Between and will be able to fight the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil.

Fighting The Bloodhound Knight Darriwil

The Bloodhound Knight Boss spawn in Elden Ring.

Bloodhound Knight Darriwil is a decidedly tough enemy to fight in the early game, as are all the bosses located in Limgrave’s Evergaols. However, with some key tips, you can learn his patterns and get your hands on one o✨f Elden Ring’s best curved greatswords.

Firstly, as you enter the fight, the Bloodhound Knight will take some time to materialize. In this time you can lock onto him and get a couple of light attacks, or one heavy attack before he can respond.

Shields are somewhat futile devices against the Bloodhound Knight Darriwil, as he is extremely fast and will move behind you if you are not on your toes. Instead, focus on dodging his attacks, learning the timing to roll through his rapid strikes.

With that in mind, try two-handing your weapon. While this will decrease the speed of your attacks, it wil🌼l🍌 significantly increase the damage you deal.

Elden༒ Ring: How To Defeat Margit the Fell Omen

Here's how to take down one of Elden Ring's most formidable foes, Margit the♚ Fell Omen.

Using The Bloodhound’s Fang

Near a ledge in Elden Ring

The Bloodhound’s Fang is undoubtedly one of the most powerful weapons you can find in the early areas of Elden Ring. However, you may not be able to wield it straight from spawn. To use this weapon you will need 18 strength and 17 dexterity.

Although powerful, the Bloodhound Fang's scaling isn't the best. The weapon features D scaling in strength and C in dexterity. That's certainly good enough for New Game Plus, but it falls off in damage compared to other weapons after you've beaten💖 the game multiple ✅times.

Another unique feature of this blade is its weapon art, named Bloodhound’s Finesse. When using this ability, your character will𝄹 perform a powerful aerial slice 🧔that often has the strength to stagger enemies and even bosses.

Pressing heavy attack after the initial aerial slice will cause you to dash forward and perform a follow-up attack. Much like your dodge roll, you will not take damage during the forward dash. When properly timed, this attack can evade damage.

The real benefit of the Bloodhound’s Fang, however, is its huge bleed damage. Bleed is a damage type that builds up after every hit. Once your enemies' bleꦍed meter is filled, they will take a massive chunk of damage. Most enemies in Elden Ring are weak to bleed, so having it on any weapon is a real bonus.

Finally, the Bloodhound’s Fang is a unique weapon. So, like every unique weapon in Elden Ring, it requires Somber Smithing Stones to upgrade.
