Summary

  • Elden Ring Nightreign has worn its Dark Souls references on its sleeve since it was revealed.
  • As it turns out, though, there's even more nods than you might expect.
  • You'll have a tough time getting to see them, though, as there are some tough unlock requirements.

i🔯s packed with more references than just the Nameless King an🐻d Solaire, but you're going to have a very tough time unlocking them all.

From the moment Elden Ring Nightreign was first revealed at last year's ♕The Game Awards, it quickly emerged as one of the most surprising things that FromSoft has ever done. Not only is it a stran♍gely modern concept from the studio with its online battle royale an🌄d roguelite influences, but it'ꦗs also somewhat of a mishmash of previous Soulslikes.

FromSoft fans were ওquick to point out that Nightreign features a bunch of bosses from Dark Souls games, something that most never expected to see in the world of . We've seen more and more references and hints at this bein💃g a wild FromSoft crossover of sorts as Nightreign approached its release, but there's even more waiting in the full game.

Elden Ring Nightreign Features A Bunch Of Unlockable Dark Souls Skins

Good Luck Getting To Them, Though

A skin referencing Catarina in Elden Ring Nightreign.

FromSoft already announced some time ago that Solaire 🐽was going to be referenced in Elden Ring Nightreign through an unlockable skin (which we now know is for🙈 Guardian), but that's far from the only Dark Souls reference to be found. Every character in the game has two purchasable Dark Souls skins that reference characters from the seri♑es, from Havel the Rock to Siegward's iconic Onion Armour.

For example, Wylder has skins that refernece Artorias th💧e Abysswalker from the first Dark Souls, as well as a skin nodding to🅰 the Faraam set from . Meanwhile, the Revenant has skins based on Sister Friede and the Sorcerer set, while Recluse has references to Karla from and The Emerald Herald from Dark Souls 2.

All of those little nods and easter eggs sound like fun, right? W💮ell, you're going to have to put in some hard work if you want to unlock these skins, as they're only purchaseable once you've defeated Elden Ring Nightreign's final boss. That's tough enough on its own, but reaching the final boss means defeating four different Nightlords first.

Elden Ring Nightreign Is Basically Guess Who For Dark Souls Fans

Interestingly, Executor is fairly gender ambiguous despite using he/him pronouns, and is the only character in the game to🐓 have a female and maꦜle skin based on Dark Souls.

Once you've done that, you can purchase each of the skins for 7,500 Murk (an in-game cur൲rency, don't worry), which is a lot cheaper than some of the other skins for each character. That's probably a sign that FromSoftware knows how hard you've worked to g🍌et up to that point, and it's something you're sure to appreciate after some incredibly tough bosses.
