I have a bit of an odd relationship with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elden Ring. I wrote before the game launched 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:in praise of its community, and the strange camaraderie the group shared through several no-shows at potential reveal events. Then the game came out and everyone loved it. At least, almost everyone. 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:I just couldn't jive with it, and it felt odd to see such an abstruse and difficult game 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:be universally praised. There was something I was missing, and like an old TV, if I banged my head against it hard enough, eventually the fuzz and the static would fade🍰 into something crystal clear.

It never did. But over time, I've been able to enjoy Elden Ring from a more academic point of view, one shorn of the personal investment of playing myself. The news cycle moved on, as it always does, and I no longer felt the pressure to keep up with the game - as a result, my resentment, or whatever feeling brews when you bash your head too many times for no gain, faded. My appreciation for the wider community, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:once dulled by 'try finger but hole', returned with force. Now I have seen the light.

GTA 6 fans should be enjoying months of speculatio൩n and theory crafting, not petty squabb🍸les

Just this week, we wrote a story about how a player had 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beaten Malenia using only bubbles and the power of jazz. This sits alongside stories like the person who beat Malenia using a dance mat, or 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:via goldfish. Then there was 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the legendary Let Me Solo Her, who beat the game using a mod that made every single enemy into Malenia. If you're not an Elden Ring aficionado and are reading this Elden Ring article to enrich your palette, it's worth pointing out that Malenia isn't early-game meme fodder, but one of (if not the) 168澳🍌洲幸运5开奖网:most diff🦄icult bosses in the whole game.

It doesn't end there. Malenia has been 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:kicked to death and 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beaten in ten seconds, though not at the same time. The person who beat her 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:via dance mat also 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:beat her one-handed, but again, not at the same time. I could go on and on with the various inventive ways people have beaten Malenia, or the entire game. That's not unique to Elden Ring specifically, and has long been a tradition for Souls games, for two very simple reasons.

elden ring character wearing only a jar as a helmet and wielding two swords

Firstly, Souls games are very difficult and have no easy mode, so if you beat it on a dance mat, there's no way to question whether you took any shortcuts. You took a difficult task and made it even more difficult purely to prove you could. Secondly, Souls games are very simple at heart. You fight some minions to reach a boss, fight more minions to reach the next boss, and so forth. There are no moral dilemmas or snaking side quests that explore the human condition, and while die-hard fans will tell you a rich story lurks beneath the surface, Souls games are essentially a gauntlet of tougher and tougher things to kill.

168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Life is Strange is a much easier game to play, but it wouldn't translate to playing via goldfish. Not only would it be far less impressive as a feat, it would be a lot more complicated and not worth the effort. What makes Elden Ring particularly impressive is that it's more complicated than most Souls games, expanding into an open world formula, and introducing a lot more variance into the mix.

That's why people pulling off these weird feats is so interesting. Part of the reason they're drawn to it is because it's a newer game, therefore fresher for them and their viewers (unsurprisingly, most of these people are streamers trying to entertain). But another part is that Elden Ring is perfect for these sorts of challenges, leaving players with enough control to structure their attempts in the best order for success, but still leading to the battle of wits and skill that makes Souls games so revered.

I will never play Elden Ring again as long as I live. Not with two hands, not with one hand, not with a goldfish on a dance mat. I have made my peace with being locked out of this slice of paradise. But as the community continues to rally around it, and with a major expansion on the way, there's nothing better than seeing people beat this game in weird and wonderful ways.
