You might've stumbled into the Volcano Manor in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Elden Ring. It's a little secluded and the quest to get there is something you find by happenstance. An NPC called Rya at Liurnia of the Lakes has lost her necklace. She asks you to recover it from a bandit at a nearby shack.

Like the lowly Tarnished you are, you slump your way through the swamps, fighting giant shrimp, so you can buy back that necklace for 1,000 Runes (or you can kill the bandit). Either way, you return to Rya and deliver her necklace,𒆙 after 💖which she rewards you with an invitation to Volcano Manor.

Jump ahead to after you've beaten the second dungeon and reached the Altus Plateau, you find Rya again at the Lux Ruins. Here, she'll escort you to the Volcano Manor where you're recruited to a cult of Two Finger-hating invaders. They're, in a lot of ways, Elden Ring's answer to the Darkwraiths of Dark Souls.

Who Is Tanith?

Elden Ring Tanith sitting in her chair with her knight stood beside her

"I am Tanith, the proprietress of this house," she state༒s when you first arrive. "An honour to have you."

Tanith is the Volcano Manor's matriarch, the♌ one who recruits you to usurp the way of the Two Fingers, fighting back against their doctrine. She tasks you with assassinating a slew of targets, furthering your loyalty by bestowing upon you more gifts and knowledge.

Tanith's history is an intriguing one. She wasn't born into the Volcano Manor. In fact, she was recruited by the Volcano Manor's secret benefactor, Rykard, one of Marika's children. We know as much because of her gear's description:

Long ago, when Rykard first set eyes on Tanith, she was working as a dancer in a ꦐforeign land. Soon, he made her his consort. She was the only human to remain by his side when he became the serpent of blasphemy. In that moment,ꦫ Tanith was truly charmed by him.

She also drops the Consort's Mask, an item that obscures her face. As such, we don't really know what Tanith looks like. But interestingly, the mask is modelled on "a foreign queen", likely from the land Rykard found her in. And we know, from later in Rya's quest, that Tanith is Rya's adoptive mother. We get an item called "Zoraya's Letter" which says, "I wish to set out on a journey. So that one day, I can carry on Mother's work. Be the proud daughter of Tanith of Volcano Manor."

Who Is Rykard?

Elden Ring Rykard emerging from the flames to greet the Tarnished

"Join the Serpent King, as family," Rykard 🧸says to the Tarnished. "Together, we wi🦩ll devour the very gods!"

The Volcano Manor is ultimately about going against the grain, ignoring the doctrine of the Two Fingers and usurping the gods. That's what we're told. When we're introduced to Tanith, we're sent to hunt other Tarnished, to attack our own kind to further this idea that the Two Fingers are liars, using us to regain power. But it goes beyond that.

Rykard, son of Queen Marika, has ulterior motives. He wants to devour the gods, gain their power, and earn everlasting life. He's an abomination much as Seath the Scaleless was in the original Dark Souls, similarly losing himself to a lust for power and unending life.

Elden Ring God-Devouring Serpent curling in on themselves

Rykard has become a "blasphemo🅺us serpent" in his goal for immortali♛ty. We know as much thanks to the item description of the Remembrance of the Blasphemous.

Rykard took the form of a giant serpent that he might devour, grow, and live eternally. &qu🌊ot;I understand. The road of blasphemy is long and perilous. One cannot walk it unprepared to sin."

Interestingly, his Great Rune says that he "fed himself to the blasphemous serpent." This could be taken in two ways. One, it could be metaphorical — Rykard could have "fed himself" in that he was consumed by his lust for power. But it could also imply that the blasphemous serpent was a pre-existing creature that he merged with, much as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Aldrich did with Gwyndolin in Dark Souls 3.

The Volcano Manor's Ulterior Motives

Volcano Manor Rya hunched over, speaking to the Tarnished

Rya, who brings us to the Volcano Manor, eventually reveals herself to be a serpent. It seems as though Rykard is not only using the Manor to fight back against the Two Fingers and to usurp the gods, devouring them for power, but that he is also converting his followers into serpents as well.

Hell, when you first enter the Manor, you meet a gruff Knight with a giant hammer. It's wrapped in a snake, foreshadowing their true motives.

But being a snake isn't all that it's chalked up to be. Rya asks us to put her out of her misery, and we can, giving her a dignified ending. But we can also cure her. Should you choose to kill her, she'll drop the Daedicar's Woe talisman which has a peculiar item description.

Disturbing likeness of a woman whose skin was flayed. She sౠmiles with a serene tenderness. It is said that this woman, named Daedica, indulged in every form of adultery and wicked pleasure imaginable, giving birth to a myriad of grotesque children.

Perhaps these "grotesque children" are the serpents mentioned. Whatever the case, it folds into the true story of the Volcano Manor, that being a cult of Rykar followers who either knowingly or unwitting💖ly support his goal of godhood.

There are also two optional bosses at the Volcano Manor we can fight — the Abductor Virgins. They drop the Inquisitor's Girandole, a spear, which gives us a further look at what goes on at Volcano Manor.

Instrument of torture used on nobles behind the curtain at the Volcano 🌌Manor of Mt. Gelmir. Its numerous spikes pierce the flesh, then singe the wounds with flame. The smell of burnt blood induces despair in the victim. A candlestick conceived by a thorough mind.

Who Are The Godskin Nobles?

Godskin Noble Trophy

There are hints that children resi🔴de at the Volcano Manor, perhaps the blasphemous serpents mentioned, but it goes a step further with the Godskin Noble. Yet another boss at the Volcano Manor, this one drops th🧸e Godskin Swaddling Cloth. Its item description points to the Manor breeding children specifically to fight against the gods.

Sacred cloth of the Godskin Apostles, made from supple skin sewn together. The G🌺loam-Eyed Queen cradles newborn apostles swaddled in this cloth. Soon they will grow to become the death of the gods.

The Gloam-Eyed Queen is very likely Tanith. So perhaps these Godskin Nobles, of which we fight two, are the children mentioned — not the Serpents.

This idea is furthered by the Noble Presence incantation that they drop. It says that the incantation was "once a sign of the gods' wrath" but that it has become a "trophy of the Nobles' god hunt." Piecing together the item descriptions, it might be that Tanith's abominable children are the Godskin Nobles.
