168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Elder Scrolls has plenty of elves. From the Altmer to the Dunmer, there's quite a roster. However, not all of them have made playable appearances. Take the Snow Elves of Skyrim, or even the Dwemer of Morrowind — we meet them, but we can't make the player character represent them directly. Usually, that's because they're extinct or verging on extinct, of course. But the Maormer, or the Sea Elves, are an exception.
They're abundant, coming from a continent south to the Summerset Isles called Pyandonea. That's why they aren't playable in any of the main Elder Scrolls games — they don't live in Tamriel. But they do regularly invade due to their ongoing feud with the Altmer. They've tried time and time again since the first and second era to conquer the Summerset Isles.
Noted for their pale grey, blue, and sometimes white skin, cloudy solid white eyes, typically elvish ears, and even scaley skin in some cases, the Maormer are infamous for their insect-like pirate ships and snake magic. They're even ruled by an immortal wizard king who is rumored to be getting younger with the years. It could be a legend, but weirder things have happened. Let's dive into what else we know about these seafaring mer.
The History Of The Maormer
As mentioned, the Maormer have an ongoing rivalry with the Altmer. But the origin of this age-old feud is often up for debate. Some believe that the Maormer were originally exiled from the Summerset Isles, evolving into the Sea Elves as the Altmer did from the Aldmer. But it's more likely that the Maormer split far earlier, at the original Elven homeland of Aldmeris.
There's not a lot known about the Maormer in the first and second era other than the fact they constantly invaded the shores of the Summerset Isles in an attempt to take them from the Altmer. They failed every single time. But in the Three Banners War (which is when 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Elder Scrolls Online takes place) the Maormer did break into Tamriel by ruling over 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:an Elsweyr island called Kenarthi's Roost.
This rule was the product of a treaty between the Altmer, Khajiit, and Maormer rather than an invasion. But Maormer ambassador Ulondil betrayed this treaty, launching a full-scale attack on the island. This led to a later invasion of Summerset where the Maormer managed to take over Sunhold, one of the island's major cities.
Sunhold was taken back, the Altmer regained control, and the Maormer retreated to Pyandonea. However, they invaded once more in the third era in an attack dubbed the War of the Isle. They were again unsuccessful, as Summerset's kings along with the Psijic Order and Antiochus Septim managed to drive back the Maormer, destroying their wizard king's fleet. By the time of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (the fourth era) not much is known of the Maormer or what's become of them. But with the Altmer now ruling most of Tamriel, it's clear that they stand little chance of taking over Summerset.
What Is The Maormer's Connection With Snakes?
The Maormer are said to be ruled by an immortal wizard king called Orgnum, but there are other theories as to💫 who Orgnum is. Some believe him to be the Serpent God of the Satakal. The Satakal is the Worldskin, the Yokudan god of everything. Satakal comes from Satak, the snake that came before existence.
Given that the Maormer are ruled by who is believed to be a snake god, it shouldn't come as a surprise that they have snake regalia on their ships and utilize snake magic. Some Maormer even have scales, and they're known to tame sea serpents for battle and travel, using them as we would horses. But aside from their fascination with snakes, the Maormer are known for their seafaring capabilities, often using storm magic to tear apart fleets and crush entires navies.
The Maormer are an interesting lot and function as a primary antagonist to the Altmer, much as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Dwemer were to the Chimer before they became the ashen-skinned Dunmer of Morrowind. Perhaps one day we'll see this feud played out in a mainline game, maybe even 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:The Elder Scrolls 6. But for now, they remain an enigmatic bunch from a faraway land we've yet to see.
