In a series full of unique villains, arguably the most interesting villain in the series is Alduin. Said to be the firstborn of Akatosh, the dragon god of time, it’s no surprise that Alduin is one of the strongest dragons in the entire universe. There are many hidden details💖 you may ha🦄ve missed about the World Eater, and his history is full of destruction.

Merethic Era

The Ancient Nordic Pantheon in the Elder Scrolls

Alduin is one of the oldest beings in the Elder Scrolls lore. According to Nordic legends, he came into existence before Nirn (the planet where the continent of Tamriel is located) was created. These same legends believe Alduin destroyed the old world to create the new world. The fearsome dragon is able to devour the souls of the dead to increase his power, making him both a creator and a destroyer.

The Atmorans, who hail from the frozen continent of Atmora to the north of Skyrim, had a major impact on Nord culture. This ancient race established the foundation of what would become the Nordic Pantheon, the main religion of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Nords. The Atmorans worshiped many animal totems, with dragons as the supreme animals. With Alduin being the strongest dragon in the world, he inevitably rose to prominence and became the leader of the dragons.

Alduin and his dragons ruled over Atmora during the Merethic Era. The worship of dragons eventually led to the establishment of the Dragon Cult. The dragons didn’t want to get involved in the trivial matters surrounding ruling, so they gave special powers to certain humans known as 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Dragon Priests in return for absolute obedience. These Dragon Prie🌱sts were essentially the kings of Atmora, with their dragon overlords seen as the gꦇods of the land.

The Atmorans eventually arrived in Tamriel, but the people occupying the continent were not too thrilled about the Dragon Cult. The Tamrielic way of rule was completely different from that of Atmora, which led to a major conflict. Despite the Dragon Priests’ best efforts to ensure that dragons and men got along, this disagreement led to the Dragon War.

Dragon War

The Dragon War in Skyrim

The Dragon War was fought in Skyrim and pitted man against dragon. With Alduin at the helm, the dragons showed no mercy. It looked as if they were going to easily win the war until Paarthurnax changed everything.

Paarthurnax is Alduin’s younger sibling and was the leader’s chief lieutenant during the Merethic Era. He supposedly committed various atrocities against humankind while allied with his brother, but eventually had a change of heart. Paarthurnax, along with some other dragons, eventually turned on Alduin and taught man how to use the Thu’um. This gave the people✃ of Tamriel a chance to defeat their dragon overlords.

As the war raged on, Felldir the Old, Hakon One-Eye, and Gormlaith Golden-Hilt lured Alduin to the Throat of the World, the highest point in all of Tamriel. Once there, the trio used the Dragonrend shout to cripple Alduin and used an Elder Scroll to send him forward in time, banishing the dragon.

The disappearance of Alduin signaled the end of the Dragon War. Without Alduin around as their leader, the dragons were lost and were slain by the Nords until only a few dragons remained in the world. Paarthurnax was one of them, and he stayed at the top of the Throat of the World, eventually becoming the leader of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Greybeards.

Sky Haven Temple Prophecy

In 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sky Haven Temple, one of the few remaining Akaviri temples in Tamriel, there is a large mural known as Alduin’s Wall. This mural depicts many of the major events that have shaped Tamriel and also references some events that have yet to conclude, such as the Skyrim Civil War and a prophecy foretelling Alduin’s inevitable return. It is said that the World Eater would make his eventual return during a time of crisis and that the Last Dragonborn would step up to fight him.

The Dragon War took place in the Merethic Era, and it took over 5000 years for Alduin to make his return to Skyrim. He resurfaced in the 202nd year of the Fourth Era when he targeted the Dragonborn at Helgen. After announcing his return🐲, Alduin began restoring the Atmoran order. Alduin resurrected the Dragon Priests that served hiꦇm all those years ago and also resurrected his dragon brethren at their ancient burial grounds. Eventually, word of the dragons returning spread all throughout Skyrim.

The Dragonborn is the player character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. They are the only mortal capable of killing a dragon by absorbing its soul, so it’s only natural that they would be Alduin’s main target. If something were to happen to the Dragonborn, then no one would be able to stop Alduin from destroying the world.

A final confrontation between the Dragonborn and Alduin occurred in Sovngarde, the Nordic afterlife. The Dragonborn joined forces with Felldir the Old, Hakon One-Eye, and Gormlaith Golden-Hilt, the same three Nords who banished Alduin in the Merethic Era. Together, the four of them slew Alduin and saved the world.

Current State Of Dragons

After Alduin’s demise, dragons still roam the skies of Skyrim, but they are significantly weakened without their leader. They lack direction and do whatever their heart desires since they no longer have anyone to report to. This has led some dragons to try and finish Alduin’s work by attacking the Dragonborn, while others are at peace with the loss of their leader.

The fate of all dragons rests largely on the choice of the Dragonborn. If the Dragonborn sides with the Greybeards, then it’s unlikely that they’ll wipe out all dragons because the Greybeards are pacifists. If the Dragonborn sides with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the Blades, then they would be destined to kill all dragons, including Paarthurnax. Neither of these choices is canon as of yet, so the current state of dragons in Skyrim is unknown.
