Frontier has unveiled a brand new developer diary called "One Giant Leap" that showcases some of the things you can expect in the upcoming Elite Dangerous: Odyssey expansion. This insight into the development process showcases the wonders of the planets you can soon explore on foot for the very first time. As we approach the early 2021 release window for Elite Dangerous: Odyssey, this series of developer d⛎iaries will unveil more details about the unique expansion.
Exploration has always been at the heart of Elite Dangerous and Odyssey promises to take it to the next level. The video diary sees༺ Game Director Piers Jac⛄kson, Art Directors Chris Gregory and Jonathan Bottone, Principal Programmer Kay Ross and Lead Designer Gareth Hughes come together to walk you through their first contact with the outside world.
This footage is pre-alpha but really highlights the focus of the expansion, which is to take you on an atmospheric journey through the universe. The team aims to give players a "Neil Armstrong moment" aꦑs they land on planets an💟d take one small step into the unknown.
It's the first time players have left the confines of their ships and there are a lot of new things to discover. The team has focused not just on looks but on creating a geologically realisဣtic experience with surface pressure, different atmospheres, new fauna, volcanos, a✱nd other hazards and wonders that make up some unique landscapes.
The natural structures of the planets are varied and you can expect to find anything from an ice planet to a desert expanse. There's even alien vegetation to discover and analyze, a task which can give players genetic data that can be ꦚtraded with others.
Elite Dangerous has always had a focus on exploring the unknown as well as creating an experience that feels as realistic as po🐼ssiblཧe. The footage we see here is proof that every care has been taken to keep this at the forefront of development while working on the expansion.
Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is lau🔴nching in early 2021 and more information will be released in the lead up to launch. These developer diaries will include details of gameplay and first-person combat.
