It's not even been a day since we reported that Valveꦰ will not allow any blockchain games on Steam due to the unregulated monetary value of NFT's that the platform would have to deal with. In the hours following the report, Epic Games took the opportunity to shove it in its competitors' face by welcoming games that use blockchain technology.

The update came via the boss himself, Tim Sweeney, who , "Epic Games Store will welcome games that make use of blockchain tech provided they follow the relevant laws, disclose their terms, and are age-rated by an appropriate group. Though Epic's not using crypto in our games, we welcome innovation in the areas of technology and finance."

Valve's ban of games using NFTs and blockchain technology came thanks to Age of Rust, a game that awarded players NFTs for solving puzzles. The developers tweeted saying that Steam will no longer allow games using the technology. A representative from Steam told the team that its policy did not allow “items that can have real-world value on their platform.”

While Sweeney was sure to mention that blockchain tech will not be used by Epic in any of its own games, it will welcome the "innovation" as long as certain guidelines and policies are adhered to. Sweeney also went on to put down his thoughts about the technology. "As a technology, the blockchain is just a distributed transactional database with a decentralized business model that incentivize investment in hardware to expand the database's capacity. This has utility whether or not a particular use of it succeeds or fails," he tweeted.

Only in September Sweentey against NFTs saying, that "the whole field is currently tangled up with an intractable mix of scams, interesting decentralized tech foundations, and scams." Perhaps something changed his mind in the last month, or it could merely be a reaction to Valve's decision.

While Sweeney hasn't particularly mentioned NFTs in this latest turn of events, it's anyone's guess what it could mean for games using the technology. It also isn't clear exactly how NFTs or other blockchain related tokens would contribute to your gaming experience; some say that they can provide an additional sense of ownership of an in-game you've purchased or unlocked. However, that could also be accomplished via a simple receipt.

Neopets recently launched "20,500 equally unique, algorithmically generated lovable 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Neopets NFTs﷽". Basically you can buy images of Neopets in differe꧃nt clothing. Expectedly, this move has been labelled a "cashgrab project" by fans.
