One of the best things about Europa Universalis 4 is how it aims to replicate actual historical events, despite its "alternate history" style of gameplay. It does this by either triggering in-game events or letting nations make "d☂ecisions&🧔quot; that match up with actual history.
One of these is the Iberian Wedding. Also known as the Iberian Union, this was the historic dynastic union between the kingdoms of Spain and Aragon which saw the entire Iberian peninsula come under Habsburg rule. While there were prolonged repercussions of this union in history, EU4 only includes the initial union as 💎an in-game mechanic.
The Iberian Wedding Event
The Iberian Wedding is an event that can happen for the nation of Castile when certain requirements are met. It can also happen for Aragon, but only if Aragon is being played by the player and isn't controlled by an AI. When the event fires, the player receives two options :
- Let us bind their Dynasty to ours
- No, let us marry a local talent instead
The first option is what most players will be wanting as it's the one that forms a Personal Union with the other nation. If you are playing as Castile, you will become the leader of a union with Aragon. If you are playing as Arag🎀on, you will instead become the leader in a union with Castile.
The Iberian Wedding can happen even if you aren't playing as Castile or Aragon. In this case, the leading partner will always be Castile i﷽f the option to bind the dynasties together is chosen.
TIP: If you are playing as Castile and the Iberian Wedding event triggers, if Aragon still has control over Naples you will also becom𒊎e the leader in a union over Naples. |
This is not the only effect of the dynastic marriage, however. To solidify the union, Castile and Aragon will get very large 200 opinion bonuses towards each other that decay only five points per year. In addition, the junior partner in the union will have a -50 liberty desire effect to help avoid uprisings.
The event is not without some minor risks, however. Upon taking the option to bind dynasties, some Noble Rebels will rise up in a random province that you own - defeat them before they damage your nation too much. In addition, any country that had a Royal Marriage with the junior partner in the union will get an instant -50 opinion effect that will take 50 years to disappear.
The alternative option, to marry a local, will result in a far less grand outcome. You will gain a consort with decent skills, one Stability point, 50 Administrative Power, and a slight opinion hit with the nation that would have been the junior partner. You snubbed them, after all. Note that it is possible for an AI Castile to choose either option when the Iberian Wedding event triggers for them, ev🏅en though it would be a significantly worse choice for them to forgo the powerful personal union.
How To Trigger The Iberian Wedding
T𒊎here are a variety of conditions that must be met before the game will considꦍer triggering the Iberian Wedding.
- Both countries must be independent - in other words, not the subject of another nation.
-
Your country (i.e. Castile or Aragon) must have a certain number of provinces.
- Castile requires 25 provinces to trigger the Iberian Wedding.
- Aragon requires 16 provinces to trigger the Iberian Wedding.
- You must not be at war with the target country, and they must not be the war leader in their own war. You can be in a different war, just not one with the other country.
- Castile and Aragon must be neighbors. This is incredibly unlikely to not be the case, but it is one of the requirements.
- The year must be between 1450 and 1530.
Once these conditions are met, there are two tri🎀gger conditions for the event to actually fire. Only one of the following must be true:
- The rulers of Castile and Aragon must be of different genders.
-
The AI-controlled nation currently has a regency council.
- Regency councils are present when the current ruler of a nation is too young to actually rule - under the age of 15.
As long as one of these conditions is fulfilled, the event can fire. Europa Universalis 4 events have a stacking chance of firing as time goes on. When an event has its conditions met, it will get more and more likely to fire. Once the conditions for the Iberian Wedding are fulfilled it will take on average 12 years to fire.
- The event will fire slightly quicker on average if the rulers are of different genders, in comparison to if the AI-controlled ruler has a regency council.
As far as actually influencing factors to get the event to trigger, there is not much you can do in the grand scheme of things. You can try abdicating the throne or disinheriting your heir if your rulers' genders don't match up for the event, but this can always go wrong if the other nation's ruler dies unexpectedly. You could also make an effort to ally the other nation (if they haven't made you their Rival) to influence how likely they are to go to war.
NOTE: Abdicating the throne and disinheriting your heir requires the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Rights of Man DLC. |
Given that the event can trigger over a span of 80 years, there's a decent chance that you'll manage it. Binding the two dynasties is also one of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the easiest ways to form Spain diplomatically and will give you a ton of military and economic 🙈power regardless.
