Since his high-speed debut in 1991, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic the Hedgehog has enjoyed thirty years on our screens, eꦇxpanding from his humble beginnings in videogames t💙o a variety of comic books, TV shows, and movies.

With a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:new game in the works, as well as a sequel to the 2020 film and a Netflix series, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Sonic Prime, coming out in 2022, the sheer number of Sonic iterations is staggering. Of course, not every version of Sonic the Hedg🌼ℱehog is created equal, and some, we’d rather forget altogether.

16 Canceled Movie Sonic 🍌

The cancelled version of Sonic the Hedgehog from the 2020 movie.

It’s universally known that Sonic the Hedgehog has seen some bad interpretations, but only one was so poor that it had to be changed before release. This design, to be implemented in the 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film, was universally panned by fans and critics for his 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:terrifying humanoid proportions and hyper-realistic eyes and teeth.

In response to the backlash, the initial design shown in the first trailers for Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) was scrapped, leading to a complete redesign, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:reportedly costing $5 million. With that, the world will now never see what a Sonic the Hedgehog film 🌃would look like with horrifying elongated Sonic, and ever🅷yone is better off for it.

15 ✤ Werehog Sonic ❀

Sonic in his Werehog form, alongside his regular form, in Sonic Unleashed.

Sonic Unleashed is a definite return to form for the fastest thing alive after the appalling Sonic ‘06. It’s also a complete departure from it for an entire half of its game. Amongst the beautiful gra⭕phics and 🃏exceptional attention to detail in the world&🐓rsquo;s architecture, fans were also introduced, for the first and only time, tꦿo Sonic the Werehog, for some reason.

As the Werehog, Sonic trades his lithe, fast frame for a heavier, bulkieꦜr build. Using claws, extending limbs, and a suite of close combat mechanics to destroy a variety of enemies, the nighttime Werehog stages, 🔜unfortunately, leave much to be desired.

14 Underground Sonic 🌊

Sonic, accompanied by his siblings Sonia and Manic, in Sonic Underground.

A cult classic and a spin-off from th🍎e beloved Saturday morning Sonic TV shows, Sonic Underground’s take on the titular character involves Sonic acting as a freedom-fighter and band member at𝔍 the same time. It is within this show that Sonic’s love of chili dogs was cemented, though the fact he is a member of royalty didn’t stick about.

Unfortunately, S🐽onic is significantly less powerful than in other series, including the Saturday morning Sonic shows. Sonic doesn’t gel well with this universe, and a convoluted story and poor writing leave him as a two-trick pony: spin-dashing and eating hot dogs. Alongside that, his hydrophobia becomes an overwhelming personality trait and Sonic feels significantly watere👍d down in this TV show, pun fully intended.

13 Excalibur Soni👍c and Darkspine Sonic

Excalibur Sonic and Darkspine Sonic

As one-off iꦺterations of the Blue Blur introduced in Sonic and the Black Knight and Sonic and the Secret Rings respectively, these are each only seen in the final battles of their games. Acting as knock-off Super forms with slight redesigns to work with their games’ mechanics, they don’t see enough screen time to truly be explored.

Boiling d🐷own to either “Sonic, but with golden armor with a sword”, or “Sonic, but purple and on fire”, neither of the two forms share the invulnerability of Super Sonic, acting as sl𝓰ightly improved forms of the Blue Blur. As these are part of the Storybook Series of games, their canonicity within the Modern Sonic timeline is questionable.

12 ꦐ Hyper Soꦇnic

Hyper Sonic, flying alongside Tails in the Tornado, with the Sonic 3 title above them.

Considering that Hyper Sonic has only been seen once, during the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, it’s hard to visualize his potential. Luckily, fans should be able to 🏅replay it again for the fir💖st time in a decade soonꦬ, so expl🅷oring this ultimate form of Sonic is possible. Glowing in all seven colors of the Chaos Emeralds and giving off electrical sparks as he runs, he’s clearly meant to be greater.

However, the only major difference seen is Sonic's increase in speed, as all of his other abilities are similar enough to Super Sonic to be irrelevant in comparison. As players have only seen Hyper Sonic once at this point, and Sega reverted back to Super Sonic for the rest of the franchise, the difference must have been too negligible to count.

11 ꧒🌃 Movie Sonic

Sonic the Hedgehog in the 2020 film's theatrical release.

The 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog movie reintroduced Sonic once more, but with a few changes. While he thankfully looks like Sonic, which is more than can be said for hi🏅s original design, his body is now filled with some kind of electrical en🐟ergy, and his super-speed looks more like modern interpretations of the Speed Force than his traditional blur that acts as his namesake.

This iteration of 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:the hedgehog is rather confusing, sharing more with modern superheroes than his in-game representations, losing his 1990s cool for 2010s humor and the occasional flossing joke. While seeing Sonic get w🐓ith the times is pleasant, his personality felt generic. Hopefully, a sequel improves him.

10 🀅 Sonic X Sonic 🔯

Sonic, in Sonic X, alongside Chris Thorndyke, Knuckles, Amy, Tails, Cream and a Chao.

The ♏2003 anime series, Sonic X, is well-loved, and this version of the hedgehog is easily one of the most recognizable, even if you didn’t watch the show. Similar in attitude and appearance to Modern Sonic during his Adventure days, the Blue Blur spends most of his time on Earth, retelling many of his original stories in a new environment.

However, in this world, Sonic is a much more passive character. Sharing the limelight with a huge world of characters left little in the way of growth for Sonic, who waꦫs widely criticized at the time of Sonic X’s release. Sonic rarely takes the lead, acting as a hedgehog ex machina in many situations.

9 𒉰 Boom Sonic 𓄧

From left to right: Tails, Sonic, Knuckles and Amy in their Sonic Boom variants.

Before going 🥂any further, it’s a very well-known fact that the Sonic Boom games were not well-received by anyone, especially the physical redesigns of many characters. Sonic manages to find hims🃏elf with horrifying long limbs and sports tape around his arms.

The accompanying TV show, however, has won awards for its animation style and acts both as a fun experience and educational material for younger audiences. Alongside that, Sonic’s personality is more Sonic than ever as he returns to his Adventure-style wise-cracking ways. He retains his impatience and cool factor 🌄while being charming and lovable. His fourth wall breaks, and the manner in which this Sonic handles backtalk toward his enemies, is the most “Sonic” the character has been in many years.

8 ༒ 1992 Manga Sonic

A snippet from the Sonic 1992 Manga, including Nicky, Sonic's alter ego.

One of the strangest iterations of Sonic the Hedgehog can be found in the 1992 to 1993 issues of the Shogaku Ninensei manga anthology. Within the Sonic the Hedg🐭ehog manga, readers are introduced to Nicky, a tiny, glasses-wearing hedgehog wearing a long-sleeved shirt, who is seemingly the opposite of Sonic: quiet, somewhat weak, and a hopeless romantic.

Nicky actually grows up to become Sonic, who uses his super-speed to travel back into his own past, taking the place of Nicky when he does so and essentially becoming his own alter ego. It is convoluted, and while the contrast between Nicky a🍷nd Sonic does improve both characters, the fact Sonic is only there in moments of action does little to grow his character.

7 OVA Movie Sonic 🦹

Metal Sonic and Sonic going head-to-head, literally, in the Sonic OVA.

Part of a well-loved run of two episodes set on Planet Freedom, this Sonic is an incredibly lovable character. Living in the♔ Land in the Sky, he remains as indifferent, sarcastic, and snarky as many of his earlier and later counterparts. The art design of these OVAs has stood the test of time, sharing similarities with the 🍸Sonic Mania Adventures released in 2017.

Facing up against Knuckles, Robotnik, and a Hyper version of Metal Sonic, Sonic shows a greater variety of emotions than in other depictions. He is unwilling to help those he distrusts 𒅌such as Dr. Robotnik while grieving after Metal Sonic is destroyed. With some excellent fight scenes and beautiful running animations, it&rsquo🏅;s only a shame the OVA movies only lasted one hour.
