When And Where Is Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Set?
Neon Dynasty is set on Kamigawa, a plane we last visited in Saviors of Kamigawa way back in 2005. Although Neon Dynasty is set in the same world, with all of its Japanese influences, a long, long time has passed si꧅nce Saviors.
The three Kamigawa-based sets we've had (Champions of Kamigawa, Betrayers of Kamigawa, and Saviors of Kamigawa) were all set in the past of the Magic multiverse, long before the events of the story of contemporaneous sets like Time Spiral or the original Ravnica. On the other hand, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty is more or less concurrent wit🔯h the ongoing events of other sets like Crimson Vow, Midnight Hunt, and St꧟rixhaven. While initially advertised as being set about 2000 years after Saviors of Kamigawa, you could more accurately place Neon Dynasty at around 1,200-1,300 years later instead.
In those hundreds of years, Kamigawa has changed a lot and become a technologically advanced world full of cyborgs and holograms, and Neon Dynasty will be playing up the cyberpunk aesthetic a lot throughout the set. This is probably best seen so far in a new 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Planeswalker already announced, the cyborg ninja Kaito.
How the plane has become so advanced so quickly hasn't yet been explained, although it may have som❀ething to do with the plane's mysterious Emperor who is said to be an already-established character.
What Mechanics Are Returning For Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty?
We've not yet seen any cards for Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty, and have no concrete idea as to what mechanics will feature in it. That being said, a return to a plane tends to mean a few returning mechanics as well, so we can make an educated guess on what it might involve.
Ninjutsu is the most obvious one, considering the face of the set so far has been the cyborg ninja Kaito. Ninjutsu allows you to swap out an attacking creature with one from your hand as a way to surprise the enemy and was last seen in Modern Horizons properly, and a Commander variant in Commander Legends with 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow.
Spirit tribal is also a pretty big theme of Kamigawa sets, and could provide some nice synergy with the Disturb mechanic used in Innistrad: Midnig🌃ht Hunt and Innistrad: Crimson Vow, which Neon Dynasty will share a Standard format with. Maybe we'll see some sort of Black M💮irror-style 'ghost in the machine' techno-weirdness this time around?
The likelihood of us seeing many mechanics return from the original Kamigawa sets is small. Despite being one of the most popular settings the game's ever had, the sets were panned mechanically for having a wild difference between underwhelming and overpowered cards, and was seen as overly 'parasitic', meaning it didn't play nicely with sets released before or after it. The chances of things like flip cards (which rotate 180 degrees and are very difficult to read) and arcane (a subtype added to some spells🎃) returning are very, very slim.
When Does Spoiler Season Start For Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty?
Like all sets, Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will have a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:spoiler season where creators reveal cards from the set. Spoiler season will begin with an extended reveal stream on January 27, 2022. Judging by previous spoiler seasons, we can expect the fཧull season to last🌠 approximately eight days.
While we don't have an exact date yet, Wizards of the Coast has also confirmed we'll be getting a sneak preview of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty at some point in December. This is a much smaller event than the full preview season, but it will give us a taste of what's set to come in the new yea🍌r.
Will Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Have Commander Decks?
Nothing has been confirmed yet, but it's inevitable that Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty will have at least two 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Commander preconstructed decks. Every premiere set since Zendikar Rising has had them, ༺and with them being incredibly popular ways of bringing people into the Commander format, there are no signs of them stopping just yet.
When Does Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty Launch?
Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty's official launch date is February 18, 2022, following a pre-release week from February 11-17 where you can play in various events at y🍷our lo♑cal game stores.
However, as has been the case for most other recent releases, Neon Dynasty will launch on digital formats a week earlier. On Magic the Gathering Arena and Magic Online, it will launch on February 10, 2022.
