Esports is currently undergoing what could be considered a renaissance period for factors both intended and happenstance. On one hand, the esports industry was already in the process of expanding due to a natural growth of interest in the idea of competitive gaming. Video games were already becoming a daily part of life, contributing to a greater audience for pro play. Recently, quarantine conditions around the world have left many at home with little to do and without any traditional sports to watch. As esports enter more and more into the mainstream, large companies have begun to follow suit and hitch their name to prominent esports brands. Motorola, now among these, has a partnership with North American team Evil Geniuses.
As per the wording of the new deal, Motorola phones are now the offici🦩al smartphone of the organization. The company has also signed on as a presenting partner for the team's content. The deal is also meant to promote Motorola's Edge+ phone, an Android device released in May of this year.
This deal went into effect beginning on June 12th, the inaugural date of the LCS Summer Split, which is the current season of the North American League of Legends league. Over the course of the season, the team will showcase the Edge+ phone in its online content including its game analyses. Evil Genius' podcast, Chaotic Neutral, which was launched earlier this month and relea🐭ses every two weeks, will also now be co-presented by Motorola.
Evil Geniuses was already in the course of a rebrand, which began just last month. The team both unveiled a new logo, designed in response to feedback from fans of the team, and announced a business partnership with LG U🧜ltraGear gaming monitors.
Explaining the partnership, Majo Martin, who is the North American Marketing Director for Motorola, highlighted in particular that the Edge+ smartphone includes features meant to optimize gaming performance. League of Legends is currently scheduled to be released for mobil♋e devices sometime this year, so the partnership was likely, at least in part, made in anticipation of that release. Both the monetary terms and the duration of the agreement have yet to be made public.
