If you're following the Institute path in 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Fallout 4, you will eventually come to a point where the Father announces that he's dying. Therefore, he must name his successor, which happens to be you. As you've not been with the Institute that long, it's a bold decision for the Father to make, and he warns you there will be some pushback.
The said pushback comes in the form of two scientists by the names of Max Loken and Lawrence Higgs. This leads to the A House Divided side quest, where you have to stop the trouble-making duo's protest. It's a moral conundrum with several different choices and outcomes. This guide includes all of them.
How To Begin The Quest
The quest becomes available after the Mankind - Redefined mission. An Institute Synth can give it to you, or you can acquire it by speaking with Newton Oberly, who's outside of the BioScience lab. Either way, you must talk to Oberly eventually anyway.
He reveals that Max Loken and Lawrence Higgs have locked themselves in the BioScience lab to protest Father's decision to make you his successor. In the process, they've also cut off the Institute's food supply, making this a drastic situation. It doesn't matter what you say during the conversation, as no matter what, it leads to him opening a door for you.
Make Your Way To The BioScience Lab
Head through the door that Oberly unlocked and go to the room at the end of the hallway. In there, you will find some Synth guards you must take out.
Then keep progressing forward by going through the door between the shelves. Once you do, they'll be a deadly turret on your left that needs destroying.
The door at the end of the hall is where you need to go to continue the quest. 🌄The other one is a closet that contains some items.
In the next hall, there is another turret to your left, so shoot this one down, too.
Now, you've got to choose what route to take to reach the BioScience Lab. You can follow the objective marker to go to the Observation Room, or you can enter the FEV lab by walking throu๊gh the other door directly in front of where you entered the hall.
The Observation Room route gives you the chance to talk the protesters down while heading through the FEV lab is the more action-packed path.
FEV Lab Path (Optional)
Immediately after entering the FEV Lab, watch out for the bolts of electricity that sometimes appear. Then go around the corner and progress through the next door - you can sto🧔p off in the control room to loot things if you please.
In the next section, you will be welcomed by a few more turrets. Get past them and go through the large door, which you can unlock by hacking the terminal.
Not long later, you get ambushed by an Assaultron. When you've dealt with the situation, you can continue onward.
Now, you'll be in a large area with many small rooms. You can explore the place to find some loot - just watch out for the turrets hiding around corners. Once you're ready to proceed, go to the end of the hall, where there are multiple turrets and a tripwire. Go past them and enter the door to the right, using the terminal to open it.
Afterward, you simply walk through the corridor and the next room to reach the BioScience lab.
Observation Room Path (Optional)
To make it to the Observation Room, you just need to go through the door next to where the turret was operating. Then walk past the plants to enter the next door. At th🎐is poin꧋t, you will be at your desired location.
Speak with Lawrence, who's on the other side of the window. During this conversation, it's possible to talk the protesters down and avoid any bloodshed.
To do so, you must pass two persuasion checks, with the first being very difficult. If you want to attempt it, use these two almost identical dialog options:
- "Give Me A Chance" (available during the second dialog choice)
- "Give Me A Chance?" (available during the fourth dialog choice)
If you succeed, the protesters will stand down, and you can skip to the part where you return🍃 to Newton Oberly.
Decide How To Deal With Max And Lawrence
Unless you were able to talk Lawrence down from the Observation Room, you need to interact with a nearby terminal. There are a few in the Observation Room, and if you've gone through the FEV lab, you should find one next to the blue lasers.
Once there, insert the BioScience System Access Holotape. At this point, you get to decide how to deal with the protesters.
Kill Max And Lawrence
There are two ways to kill the protesters:
- Kill Them Yourself - To do this, hit 'unlock door' at the terminal - disabling the turrets will help, too. Then enter the BioScience lab using the door in the Observation Room and murder them all.
- Use Gorillas To Kill Them - If you want to save some bullets, click the 'Initiate Specimen Release' option to set the gorillas free. The animals will probably kill everyone in the BioScience lab for you. If any survive, you will have to finish them off yourself. You also need to unlock the door from the terminal whatever happens.
After the troublemakers are dead, loot the Security Override Password from one of their corpses. Also, it's important to note that if you released the deadly gorillas earlier, you should keep your guard up as the animals are not friendly.
Spare Max And Lawrence
If you want to end things as peacefully as possible, use the terminal to disable the turrets and unlock the door in the Observation Room.
Follow that by going through said door and killing all the Synth guards but keeping Max and Lawrence alive. After the Synths are dead, talk to Lawrence. During the interaction, Max will convince his friend to surrender.
Return To Newton Oberly
When the protesters are dealt with, you can return to Newton Oberly by going through the BioScience lab where Max and Lawrence were holed up.
If the disrupters are dead, you will have to use the terminal next to the door to override security.
Then go back into the main institute area to locate Newton Oberly. Yourꩵ conversation with him will play o🐼ut differently depending on how you dealt with the situation.
If Max and Lawrence are alive, you get to choose their punishment. These are your options:
- Put Them On Probation
- Kick Them Out
- Don't Give Them A Punishment
- Execute Them (this one requires that you complete a persuasion check)
The choice has no major effect on you or the story, so pick what you 🐈want.
Once the conversation is over, the quest comes to a close.
