Fallout 4 is an RPG at its roots, so grinding your way to a higher level can be a slow process. Here are a few ways to advance your character f𒐪aster.

We've put together an extensive list of top tier tricks to help you get the most out of your atomic adventure. Some of them are obvious but often overlooked, while others are a little more obscure. No matter what kind of Sole Survivor you are there should be something here for you.

Updated May 2, 2024 by Jon Eakin: The Fallout TV show has brought countless new people to Fallout 4, so we thought it was a perfect time to revisit this list. As one of the older articles on the site it needed a lot of love, and is now brimming with fresh features and new entries.

Tag Resources

This Is Essential

An assorted pile of junk items from Fallout 4.

Some resources are plentiful in Fallout 4, and easy to figure out how to obtain. If you're short on steel, you can figure out which junk items you need to pick up and scrap to get more. But something like Adhesive or Screws can feel less obvious.

You can tag those resources so that items containing them will display an icon next to their name. Now you'll always know what you need to loot for your latest atomic craft project.

Power Armor Can Be Customized

You Are Iron Man

A set of power armor in the Prydwen with Paladin rank decals and paint.

This is one of those things that is obvious if you already know it, but you can customize your power armor the same way you can your weapons and armor — you just have to take it to the right workstation. They look like a set of yellow frames, and you can find one opposite your house in Sanctuary and another in the 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Red Rocket garage just down the road.

You can repair and improve your power armor there, adding custom functions. More importantly, you can give it a slick new coat of paint. After all, who doesn't love flame decals?

Listen To Your Radio

More Than Just Good Music

A pristine radio on a bedroom table in Fallout 4, before the bombs fall.

Listening to the radio while you play adds a great sense of atmosphere to the game, but it also has other uses that you shouldn't ignore. Sometimes, when you enter a new area, you'll pick up a radio signal and listening to it will prove essential for a quest.

Some quests are actu𒅌ally provided with the instruction of listening to a✅ certain radio signal, like some of the ones from the next-gen patch. Tune in and find out what they have to offer.

Sell Pre-War Money

Cash For Caps

Stacks of money from before the war, sitting on metal shelving in Fallout 4.

You can find endless stacks of cash in Fallout 4, the only problem? No one actually accepts them as money anymore, which could easily lead you to believe they're useless for anything other than converting into resources.

Although you can't use good old American dollars as actual money, you can still sell it for a not unreasonable number of caps, so it's still better to hang onto it for trading than use it to craft settlement items.

Unlock Companion Perks

Friends With Benefits

You mostly 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:gain perks when you level up, but you can also gain a perk from each of the companions in the game. You do this by reachi𓆏ng max affinity with them, ꦐgaining affinity by doing things they approve of.

Each companion has things they like and dislike, but once you figure them out, you can set your mind to maxing out their affinity and getting a nice passive upgrade. It persists even when you swap them out for someone else, so it's well worth doing.

Use Your Flashlight

Let There Be Light

This may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised at how many players tend to ignore the optional customizations you can make to your Pip-Boy. If you hold down the Pip-Boy activation button (Tab for PC, Circle for PS4 and X for Xbox One), then your personal flashlightꦛ should boo꧂t up.

🎐In the nuclear wasteland of Fallout 4, the Sole Survivor has to deal with some brutal people. Here a💛re the most evil characters of the Commonwealth.

If you don’t like the colour of said light (it’s set to radiation green) then go to your settings in the pause menu and use the final three options to alter the colour of your Pip-Boy's light to one that suits you better.

Food Provides Bonuses

The Strength Of A Stag

Three Radstag, mutated two-headed deer in Fallout 4, sit in the grass.

To be over-encumbereꦡd can be the bane of your existence in the world of Fallout, especially when you have a bunch of unique items that, if lost, you may never find again. So, when your carry limit exceeds, it can be a painstakingly long task to find the nearest storage location, go back to your settlement𒐪, lose your items, and venture back to the place where you left your favorite weapons or armor.

Not to worry, young wastelander, for if you cook a piece of Radstag meat and eat it, you’ll gain an extra 25 carrying weight for a short while. This is a safer alternative than taking chems since there's no risk of addiction.

Sleep Often

Both In And Out Of Game

A settler from Fallout 4 sleeping on a dirty mattress.

This mওay sound strange as a video game tip, but while exploring the wasteland, don’t forget to sleep every once in a while. It’ll give you full health and the bonus of the Well Rested perk, which permits a ten percent experience points boost for everything that, well, grants experience point꧟s.

Make it personal by sharing a bed with one of your companions, and you’ll receive the Lover’s Embrace perk, which does the same but bumps it up by an extra five percent. Don't forget to get some sleep in real life, too; look after yourself.

Make Your Own Adhesive

Stick To It

Adhesive is an essential part of every and all crafting you’ll take part in durin𝓀g your time in the Capital Wasteland, especially if you 🍸want to maintain your settlement. And it seems that adhesive is a limited substance due to its necessity in almost every design.

If you truly need some adhesive, all you have to do is combine three Corn, three Mutfruit, one𒈔 Purified Water, and three Tatos at a cooking station and voila, you’ve made Vegetable Starch, which is equitable to five adhesives.

Hang On To Unique Items

Never Forget A Name

Named items are usually some sort of unique object that cannot be found anywhere else and probably have something to do with a certain side quest somewhere. When you co🍰me across one, don’t leave it. Instead, store it so that, when you finally come across said side quest, you already ✱have the means to progress or complete it.

It may sound l🅷azy, but the wasteland is vast and dangerous, making it easy to forget specific locations and items. Most of the time, the named item will be weightless anyway, so what’s to lose?
