Fallout 76 has a lot of brand new content in the Steel Dawn update, and in this guide, we're going to be breaking down one of the very first quests in the new Brotherhood of Steel questline, Forging Trust. After finally making your way to Fort Atlas to speak with the Brotherhood of Steel, it seems that Knight Shin and some of the o༺thers are not too welcoming of you. Follow the steps in this guide and you'll complete the quest and be on your way to beinꦐg a fully-fledged member of the Brotherhood of Steel.

Speak to Russel Dorsey
After listening to the radio transmission from the Brotherhood of Steel in the Welcome To The Neighborhood quest you'll be given a quest marker for Fort Atlas on your map. Make your way there and talk to Russel Dorsey outside. He'll tell you to talk to Knight Shin if you want to get anywhere with the Brotherhood o🥃f🧸 Steel.
Speak to Knight Shin
Move inside Fort Atlas, and in the entrance you'll see Knight Shin talking to Paladin Rahmani, stressing the issues he and his team are facing. There's clearly some animosity here, but after the conversation finishes, you can talk to Knight Shin alone. If you have Charisma 4+ then you will be able to convince Knight Shin pretty easily, but regardless it won't be long until Knight Shin sends you off on a mission. There are four petitione𒈔rs, and if you find out what they want, Knight Shin will hear you out.
Speak to the petitioners
There are four different petitioners around Fort Atlas, 💯and al𒅌l of them have a different problem with the Brotherhood of Steel.
- Shawn Hockman was robbed and believes members of the Brotherhood of Steel were responsible.
- Tally Lang wants weapons so she can defend herself while roaming the wastes.
- Art Knapp is looking for protection from the Blood Eagle Raiders and is willing to share his crops in return.
- Doctor Blackburn is looking for supplies for valuable medical research.
Return to Knight Shin
Report to Knight Shin about each, and he'll pretty much dismiss all of their claims, unfortuna🥀tely.
Activate the scanner
On your way in you probably noticed the huge red laser grid that Paladin Rahmani walked through - it's red because it'll hurt you if you even attempt to move through𓃲 it. Now that you've earned the trust of Knight Shin, you'll be able to use the hand scanner n📖ext to the laser grid to make your way inside the main area of Fort Atlas.
