10 The Mysterious S𒀰tranger - All Games

Fallout Random Encounters Mysterious Stranger stands ready with his revolver in Fallout 4.

One of Fallout's most iconic recurring characters represents the franchise's love of all things unexpected and absurd. The Mysterious Stranger has a chance to appear randomly and assist you when you select the perk of the same name. This curious character app🔯ears while using V.A.T.S. and vanishes with a soft chime before you can interact with him.

The Stranger's appearance frequently spells instant death for your foe unless they have over 1000 HP, the threshold for the Stranger's damage. The only information about this cloaked ally comes in Fallout 4 when Nick Valentine comments on the Stranger's appearance and alludes to having further knowledge. You can check a file under Nick's desk for more clues about your benevolent buddy.

9 Gru🃏el, The Raid💮er Chef - Fallout 4

Fallout Random Encounters Gruel Raider Chef scowling.

Gruel is just another simple man trying to make his way in the galaxy. This decked-out chef comes armed to the teeth with his gun, chef's hat, and a shopping list. While the hat certainly dampens his intimidation factor, Gruel's voiceless character attacks you on sight just like any other Raider would.

His silence definitely allows room for some interpretation of what type of person Gruel was before he meets his demise at your hands. His small shopping list seems to indicate he has a sense of humor as one of his ingredients is glowing ghoul blood, which he plans to cook without his friends' knowledge: "what they don't know won't hurt 'em."

8 The W♑ounded Dog - Fallout 4

Fallout Random Encounters Wounded Dog awaits the player.

Elsewhere in the Commonwealth, you can find a friendly mongrel in severe distress as her legs are broken. With the help of a quick Stimpak, you can restore this adorable and slightly irradiated pup to her former ♔glory...mostly. Upon her recovery, the formerly crippled canine perk🦂s up and briefly follows you.

Eventually, your new companion wanders off and disappears, occasionally reappearing to assist you, much like the Mysterious Stranger. She'll stick around for a bit outside of battle before wandering off again, but don't worry if you miss her -- your new best friend will be back as long as she doesn't fall in battle.

Fallout Random Encounters Raider Initiation as members haze a new prospect.

While you wander around the Capital Wasteland, keep an eye out for Raiders gathered in the distance, but watch them before you engage. This encounter can play out differently depending on location, so observe the variations before you dive into the fray.

Be aware that New Vegas does not use the same random encounter system as other games, and you will ne💖ed the Wild Wasteland perk in order to get these intergalactic visitors to appear. If you are stealthy and kill the captain without the other aliens noticing, they will remain friendly to you even when you approach them; however, they do not have voices, so speaking with them is impossible.

5 🔴 Absalom - Fallout 4

Fallout Random Encounters Absalom battles the main character

If the Mysterious Stranger represents lawful good in the Fallout universe, then Absalom is undoubtedly the embodiment of chaotic evil. This skulking sniper attacks at random while you are navigating your way through the Commonwealth. There are where you can f🉐ind Absalom, including in the Far Harbor DLC.

You may be surprised to know that Absalom is actually not the first of his kind, as his existence is a nod to Sam Warrick from Fallout 3 -- another extremely hostile sniper with some serious bloodlust. Besides being a clever Easter Egg, Absalom is also a worthy opponent as his minimum level is 25, and he will scale with you up to level 50, so expect an immense challenge if you're a low-level character.

There is no explanation as to why the Eyebot is playing this song, nor an inkling as to why the molerats take a liking to it, but strangely they seem to be enamored by this jaunty tune. Fallout Random Encounters Lorenzo Cabot speaks about his plans

If you've completed the "Secret of Cabot House" quest and sided with Lorenzo, then you're in for a strange treat as your encounters with this eccentric egotist don't end there. After you eliminate the other Cabots, Lorenzo begins wandering the Commonwealth searching for subjects to observe.

On your walks along the roads, you may come across a group of dead N.P.C.s sprawled across the floor, with Lorenzo looming nearby. If approached, he will be muttering to himself and acknowledge that he murdered the people in front of you so that he can study them. Maybe letting him live and turning on his entire family wasn't the best idea.

Fallout Random Encounters The Mothman menacingly stares down the player.

Appalachia is home to more than just local farms and winding country roads, as the backwoods of West Virginia are ripe with cryptids just waiting to be discovered.
