Oh, Metal Gear. You were the game that introduced most of us to the twisted mind of Hideo Kojima. In what other game would you have to switch controlꦅlers just to beat a boss? Or waiting a week in between logins just to make killing another boss easier? Or have a boss shoot bees at you?

Yes, Metal Gear was certainly full of memorable boss fights. But it 🐬was also just chock full of memorable mo🌟ments in general. Even the opening cinematic in the first five minutes of Metal Gear Solid was incredibly memorable if for no other reason 𓄧than it was exceptionally rare for a game to start in that kind of movie-like way during the original PlayStation era.

One young animator certainly never forgot those first few scenes with Solid Snake sitting inside a single-person submersible waiting to be shot out o♎f a nuclear submarine like a torpedo. It was so memorable he decided 𝔉to remake the entire thing using the Unreal 4 Engine and the original sound score, with a few minor touch-ups to bring the cutscene into the 21st century.

Ok, maybe more than a few touch-ups.

Everything about this is incredible. Each scene is familiar, and yet nothing is just a🌟🌄s it was with the original. The camera angles are all new, there are more sailors while we’re looking at the interior of the submarine, and there are WAY🐽 more polygons on Solꦜid Snake’s rebreather than before.

It’s probably so many polygons that people don’t ev🌱en bother counting anymore.

Unreal 4 is the game engine that will power the next generation of games, so you could say this is a great way to build a res🐬ume for the game’s industry. Using the original as a template, everything but the actual voice acting had to be redone by Brosdau. He admitted to using a few new sound effects to bring the submarine to life, buܫt otherwise, it’s all original sound with brand new graphics.

Makes you want to start up a new MGS game just watching it.
