Far Cry 6 hits the market later this week. If you're still on the fence about whether or not to pick it up on release day, perhaps what the critics are saying will help sway you one way or the other.

We have hit the halfway point of what might well be the busiest week for video game releases so far this year. Super Monkey Ball: Banana Mania, Metroid Dread, and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl all arrive this week. Not to mention Ubisoft's Far Cry 6.

Speaking of Far Cry 6, although it doesn't officially arrive until tomorrow, the reviews for the game starring Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito are in. The latest installment appears to be attempting to strike a balance between telling a meaningful story and being a fun, wacky, open-world game but doesn't quite nail it. That's what we think anyway, and you can check out all of our thoughts on the game via the review below.

Here's what we and other major outlets scored Far Cry 6. Its current score on Metacritic is 76, which is pretty good, and as you can see, its review scores all hover around the seven or eight out of ten mark, aside from the odd outlier.

Regardless of the score given, the overall verdict of Far Cry 6 appears to be pretty much the same. That many of those to have played it so far were expecting the series to undergo a shakeup, and that just hasn't happened. Despite tweaks and minor changes made, Far Cry 6 still feels too much like Far Cry, if that makes sense. If you're fine with that, or you have never played Far Cry before, then it sounds like Far Cry 6 is worth your time.

If you're not tired of Far Cry games OR open-world games in general, then Far Cry 6 will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and PC from October 7, 2021. Plus, it sounds as if Esposito executes his role just as well you would expect him to, so is probably worth checking out for his performance alone.
