Complete Guide To Episodes Of South Town
Episodes of South Town is an RPG-esque mode found in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. It serves as its primary single-player mode, allowing you to play through short stories of the entire cast (except Cristiano Ronaldo) and unlock various cosmetic items for your player profile and characters.
While it isn't the most robust mode in modern fighting games, it serves its purpous well and can be an excellent jumping-on point for newcomers to the series or genres, and a great way for veterans to pick up the story of their favorite characters where it left off, while unlocking some goodies along the way!
Navigating South Town
When you first begin navigating the map of South Town, you will see a spread of icons with various Battle Difficulty indicators beneath them, signifying the challenge of the encounter relative to your current Level. We strongly recommend tackling every battle in each region before moving on to the next, as your Leve♊l will be on par or over the recommended Lꦐevel.
There are three regions in South Town: Central City, Second South, and East Island, so there will be LOTS of battles for you to tackle, allowing you to gain lots of EXP to Level Up and unlock new Skills and Skill Slots. To tell if you are over or under-leveled for a particular encounter, the color of the Battle Difficulty text will provide the information you need:
- Blue: The opponent's Level is lower than yours.
- White: The opponent's Level is the same as yours.
- Yellow: The opponents are one to two Levels higher than you.
- Red: The opponents are at least three Levels higher than you.
The icons will also indicate what type of battle i꧙t is, with a single human figure representing a special 1v1 encounter and multiple stick figures signifying a 1vX battle, ranging from two to four enemies on the opposing side. The pin icons represent standard encounters that typically only offer EXP or advance the story if they're marked with a red flag. Then, the exclamation mark icons represent story-focused Stages that advance the plot.
Secret Stages
Every region in South Town has a Secret Stage hidden somewhere on the map, which will reward a hefty amount of EXP upon completion. Where the icon is will differ for each character, but if you listen closely, you can hear a distinct pinging sound that rings out when your cursor is near it.
Once you hear this distinct sound, slowly move your cursor around the area until the sound and vibration get stronger, eventually uncovering an Orange Icon. This encounter will be a high level for the region it is in, but will generally follow the same rules.
Secret Stage encounters will be against a Gold opponent with a 1/66 chance of receiving 9999 damage from one of your attacks. Otherwise, they receive zero damage, no matter how much you attack them. So, it's up to chance if you defeat them quickly or after several attempts. See﷽k them out in each region and defeat them for e🍸asy EXP!
Even in the New Game Plus mode of Episodes of South Town, the Secret Stages will be more or less the same, except with a stricter time limit. This won't mean too much, as it's still left up to chanc✤e. We strongly encourage being at or above the recommended Level, as you won't receive that much damage when attacked, enabling you to stay in the fight longer and giving you more chances to proc the hit you need to defeat them!
Unlocking Skills
As you complete more and more battles and Stages in Episodes of South Town, you will Level Up, unlock new Skills, and raise your Skill Cost Limit, allowing you to equip more Skills simultaneously. Some Stages will reward you with new Skills upon completion, so it's worth seeking them out when available.
Skills can only be unlocked by specific characters, but once they're unlocked, they can be used across the entire cast and can even be stacked with similar Skills. For example, if you unlock the Normal Attack Boost I with Terry, you can pair it with the Normal Attack Boost III you obtained with Mai, and so on and so forth.
Don't sleep on Skills as they can be crucial for specific situations, allowing you to deal more damage during combos, prevent your opponent from using REV Arts and Gear Supers, and so much more. Skills can make your life substantially easier, especially in the New Game Plus mode, so ensure you're using them to create potent⛎ builds!
When viewing Skills, you can sort by characters to see which character unlocks specific Skills, allowing you to single out the ones you want. From here, you can play through thꦐat character's Episode of South Town, obtain their Skills, and then equip them to every character going forward!
New Game Plus And Unlockables
Clearing the standard version of Episodes of South Town will unlock a 'Hard Mode' version of it called 'Episodes of South Town+,' allowing you to revisit each zone for new and more challenging encounters. This mode is where you will ꦍunlock the goodies for your Player Profile and characters.
Defeating the main bosses in each area will grant you a reward that ranges from a unique Title or Avatar based on your currently selected character to a new Pattern that you can put on any character in the 'Color Edit' mode that allows you to change the Pattern and Colors of your favorite fighter's clothing, hair, and ot🌞her accessories.
New Game Plus exists for every character in the game and only becomes available after you clear their standard mode first, meaning there's lots to grind if you want to unlock everything. There will be two Titles, two Avatars, and two Patterns you can unlock for each fighter, making it worth the 🍬grind if you want to spice up yo🌠ur profile and characters.
Lastly, there's not much of a difference between this mode and the standard one, except for the enemies are smarter and the Rules are more challenging, such as 'Get a Perfect against Rock Howard' or 'You won't regenerate Health between rounds,' which can get pretty tough in the later regions. Nonetheless, if you cleared the first stage, you're more than ready for New G♚ame Plus!
