Despite fan theories that the two are set in the same world, Naoki Yoshida has clarified that Final Fantasy 16 is "not really" re🅠lated to Final Fantasy 14.
Up until the brand new trailer that was revealed last week, Final Fantasy fans have spent a surprisingly long time not knowing what Final Fanta💮sy 16 actually is and having to craft theories on what it might be about. One popular theory suggested that Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 14 were set in the same universe, due to some similarities found in their worlds and the fact that they both have Naoki 🎐Yoshida working on them in significant roles.
Following the release of the most recent trail🍰er for Final Fantasy 16, , where he clarified that the latest game in the series will be very different from what's come before and that it won't be a "Final Fantasy theme park" like Final Fantasy 14 is.
During the interview, Yoshida said, "The development concepts for (Final Fantasy 14) and (Final Fantasy 16) are inherently differe🍒nt. [Final Fantasy 16] does something that no Final Fantasy before it has — take aspects of the entire series and incorporate them into what we like to call a 'Final Fantasy Theme Park.' However, while that is a (Final Fantasy 14) concept, it is not a specific development team characteristic."
Yoshida continued, ♎clarifying that the two don't take place in the same universe, "Final Fantasy 16 is its own entity, separate f𓂃rom (Final Fantasy 14) and the other games in the series, so you won’t find as many 'tributes' as you will in (Final Fantasy 14). That doesn’t mean that there won’t be some easter eggs, though! That said, 16’s main focus will be on maintaining that series-wide feel of 'playing a movie' rather than drawing from past titles."
Although fans hoping for some kind of connection between two of Yoshida's games are likely disapp🍌ointed, they might find some peace in the fact that there will inevitably be some similarities considering the teams working on the games.
