Cyndi Lauper once said that girls just wanna have fun. To party, make friends, and live out a life without the societal pressures of toxic masculinity and the looming threat of patriarchy. It might be a saccharine pop song, but it also carries a prescient message that can be applied to 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Aerith Gainsborough and Tifa Lockhart deserve to have fun and be t🍒hemselves without the pressureܫ of having to live up to a nostalgic image in our heads.
Square Enix’s RPG launched late last week and this past weekend has seen players around the world push through it in an effort to avoid spoilers, even if the game is better enjoyed🍒 by taking your time. This means that myriad momen⛦ts I’ve tried my best to keep secret ahead of release are now proliferating online with screenshots and clips galore.
As expected, much of the conversation ri🌌ght now revolves around whether our lovable flower girl bites the dust at the end of Rebirth. My lips are sealed.
Fans are stanning all their favourites and making fascinating observations I failed to notice myself, while falling on either side of the Aerith/Tifa divid♏e. That’s a rivalry for another article, but right now I want to explore how Aerith’s character is being received in Rebirth, and why so man🌱y people are so wrong for hating on her. God forbid a girl poke fun at her lovable emo twink when he starts acting up.
Some players appear to be taking umbrage with her attitude, particularly how she talks to Cloud and appears to disregard hisꦕ feelings in a variety of different situations. , as the pair stare at a poster of Jessie in Event Square, Cloud is quick to remind Aerith how good a friend she was, and how much he misses her.
Aerith is forever a tease, and to lighten the mood, she asks Cloud if she was something more than friends, perhaps a girlfriend Cloud was keeping close to his chest. We shrug her off and laugh about how Jessie always gave as good as s🎐he got, and how Cloud is endearingly dense when it comes to girls flirting with him. All of this is true, and nothing in this scene feels out of character for Aerith compared to all of Remake and the rest of Rebirth.
Aerith never met Jessie, and stepped foot in Sector 7 for the first time as the plate began to fall, and the deceased AVALANCHE member was about to 🐓draw her last breath. She tackles this unexpected emergence of grief in the Gold Saucer through humour, and we’ve seen her cope with tragedy this way time and time again.
Even when she’s taken into the clutches of Shinra or recalls the fate of her late mother and boyfriend, she does so with a smile. There still remains hope to save this planet and 𒅌build memories upon it, so from Aerith’s view, an Ancient who can quite literally hear the planet’s cry and communicate with Gaia’s lifestream, decides to find happiness even in the darkest of places. If that means poking fun at Cloud in what many view as an awkward scene, then so be it.
Comparisons have also been made to how Tifa approaches the same scene, as who exactly accompanies you in Chapter 8 changes depending on your affinity, and how the bar owner is immediately more empathetic and mournful about Jessie&r༒squo;s passing. But they were friends for years, so of course she’s going to shed a tear. Slamming Aerith for not having the same sort of emotional capacity not only fails to make sense, it points to a misogynistic assumption that all women must cry when faced with hardship, insꦯtead of seeing the brighter side or reacting in ways that draw from their personal experiences.
Aerith has been through hell, and is aware of the uncertain future that awaits her, but still she faces everything with a smile, pokes fun at whatever situations come her w🍌ay, and⛄ cares for her friends in a way that you might see as abrasive, but is always genuine. To be a hater is to not understand her character.
Aerith has always been a free spirit, expressing her emotional honesty regardless of how she might be interpreted. When she meets Cloud in Remake, she quickly begins to tease him about finding her attractive, or hiding secrets about his past. Even a single mention of Tifa has Aerith asking if they’re an item, not out of jealousy, 🍨but curiosity.
There is obviously a spark between Aerith and Cloud, but this romantic connection nev🦂er becomes a tool for emotional manipulation, nor does it paint Aerith🐎 as some sort of homewrecker who wants nothing more than to cause trouble for those close to her. Besides, she isn’t even Cloud’s canon romance option this time around, and I’d argue she was never in the first place.
In the Corel region, you can embark on a side quest where you go on a date with Aerit♒h where y🤡ou pick shells on the beach and all manner of other cutesy minigames.
It is stressed multiple🐽 times throughout Remake and Rebirth that Aerith still has feelings for Zack Fair, and is trying to project her thoughts about him onto Cloud for all the wrong reasons. Now, after the revelation that Zack lives in a parallel universe, those moments are given new context and further solidify Cloud and Tifa as the romantic endgame for this trilogy.
None of this discounts the many romantic moments between Cloud and Aerith that take place across both games, optional or otherwise. There is a spark between the two, a love which acts as a morbid founda😼tion for the griefꦡ to come in the wake of Aerith’s death in the original. Rebirth wants to take this even further, never afraid to develop her personality and actions in a way that has evidently rubbed some players the wrong way, and I’m honestly glad she’s ruffled so many feathers.
There is a larger conversation to be had here about female characters and how people like Aerith aren’t allowed agency or autonomy away from the main narrative, or to take hold of their destiny and voice themselves in a way that is equal♊ parts humorous and confident.
I don’t think Rebirth ruined Aerith’s personality so much as it gave it a voice fo꧂r the first time, allowing a young woman to explore the wide world for the first time after years of trying to survive beneath the dystopian watch of Shinra. Of course, she is going to make mistakes or speak out of turn, because everything she does comes from the heart. She deserves that.
