's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, says that one of his biggest aspirations for 2024 is for fans of the series to get to see "Aerith's fate unfold".

As exciting as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's explorable open-world, new playable characters, and host of combat changes are, the big thing that most players are excited (or, to put it more accurately, terrified) to see is who is going to kick the bucket at the end of the game. Aerith infamously saw her end at The Forgotten Capital in the original game, but it's yet to be seen who will suffer an irreversible fate in the remake's universe.

All I want for Christmas in Final Fantasy 14 is... well actua🎃lly, there are a few things I want.

Rebirth's final moments are something that has been teased a lot over the past few weeks (with the game's director even saying that one scene will make players "lose their minds"), and it seems that the teasing isn't going to be over any time soon. , and asking them about their goals for the new year.

One of the developers who was interviewed for the piece was Naoki Hamaguchi, the director of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Alongside revealing what he thought was the most impressive piece of media in 2023, Hamaguchi was asked what his aspirations are for 2024. Unsurprisingly, he used this chance to talk about Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, pointing out its "vast world map" and expanded mechanics. That wasn't all, though, as Hamaguchi also said that he wants as many players to see "Aerith's fate" as possible.

"This work depicts the story from the time she escapes from Midgar to the Forgotten City, and I hope that many users will be able to watch Aerith's fate unfold."

Although some Final Fantasy fans might hear alarm bells ringing and think that this points to Aerith once again being the one to die at The Forgotten Capital, it's just Hamaguchi teasing that she might be able to escape the fate that she suffered in the original game and live this time. The tease doesn't give many more hints as to who we might be seeing die in Rebirth, but it is once again proof that something big is coming and that players are going to be absolutely rocked by it.
