I have never in my life played a video game and thought 'I really wish this had a Segway', so it's weird that two came along within a month of each other. In a way, I'm not judging this fairly. I've only just reached Chapter 6 in Final Fantasy where you first unlock the Segway, whereas I completed Infinite Wealth with around 75 hours logged. And yet I think I might already have used the Segway more in Costa del Sol than I ever did in Hawaii. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth just makes the Segway a more compelling vehicle than Infinite Wealth ever managed to.

Segways: Not Good For Item Hoarders

Part of the problem was an economy issue. In Infinite Wealth, you're given a battery for the Segway, with the understanding that you will need to charge the vehicle intermittently in order to maintain momentum. As someone who hoards every health potion they get in a game in case they really really need them later (and only really need them now), this approach does not work for me. Every time I hopped on a Segway, I felt like it was costing me money. Every flicker of the battery lowering was pennies dwindling from my virtual bank account.

In general, cash is odd in a 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Like a Dragon game enough to begin with. At the start, you are very🐬 poor, and cannot afford much of anything. Then, before you know it, you are exceedingly rich and buying everything bar the most expensive weapons is a cakewalk. This meant that initially I avoided the Segway thanks to my thrifty attitude, and by the time it became affordable, I was used to walking. A stroll allowed me to have more conversations, casually grind XP with more fights, and made꧂ it easier to spot side quests or snap shot opportunities.

Infinite Wealth has 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:a bigger map than Costa del Sol (168澳洲幸运5开奖网:though still not huge), so once I had unlocked it all and was flush with cash, the Segway became an option. However, at that point I could splash the dough on taxis instead. The Segway isn't bad on its own in Infinite Wealth, and it was ridiculous enough for me to give it a couple of test drives, but it feels like you’re disincentivised from using it.

Then comes Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Here, the Segway is free, and you even unlock prizes for racking up enough... whatever the Segway version of air miles are. Wheel miles? Anyway. I'm probably not going to use many of these rewards because I hoard items first and foremost, but I still want them all, and I'm pretty sure I can get them. I know Costa del Sol is a minigame heavy chapter, and have already dabbled in a few different activities. I haven't even reached the point where you unlock each swimsuit, so I'll be here for a while yet. And every step of the way will be my Segway, which means there won't be any steps at all. Only seg, baby.

2024 is the Year of the Segway

It's interesting to consider why the option is there too. In real life, you can book Segway tours of Hawaii, so that's clearly where Infinite Wealth's inspiration comes from - especially as the devs visited Hawaii to soak up the culture. You might think, as an idyllic beach resort, 168澳洲幸运5开奖网:Square Enix also based Costa del Sol on Hawaii and got the Segway idea from the same place. But there is a real Costa del Sol in Spain, and it also offers Segway tours. Did Segways somehow get incredibly popular and I just hadn't realised it?

The double Segway surprise is a fascinating example of The Dennis the Menace Principle - in March 1951, two different Dennis the Menace characters were published in the US and the UK, both rapscallions but otherwise very different in appearance and personality, and with neither team of designers having any knowledge of the others' existence.
